Hey all, I am planning on replacing my soon-to-be-dead snail with a Z31 T3, and I was curious if anyone has done this yet. If so, please let me in on any secrets you have for the install.

Also, I will be doing steel braided lines for the turbo most likely, since the Z31 has different sized banjo bolts on everything vs the RB. Does anyone know what size fittings I would need for the oil feed coming off the block? What about the coolant lines? I cant afford to tear my car apart just to get the sizes, it is my daily driver at the moment and I pretty much need to do the turbo swap in one day.

One more Question:

I read somewhere (cant remember where) that the Z31 turbo needs a restrictor to keep oil in the center housing, is this restrictor in the stock oil return line, or somewhere else? Has anyone else heard of this?

the turbo will bolt up to the manifold, however you will need some work on the oil lines and intercooler piping on the hot side

Naw, IC piping will work, just switch out the Z31 straight adapter for the RB's curved one.

And yeah, I know the oil and coolant lines are different, I compared them awhile back. I can take the turbo to a shop that sells fittings and get some that work. I cant, however, take my engine block, thats why I was looking to get the engine block fitting sizes.

How are you going to do that. The z31 turbo does not have an adapter.

Weirdness, the one I have does, a three bolt just like the RB20. Is there two versions of the Z31 turbo?

It is a T3, Ive test fit it before.

exactly as like the Z31 turbos i have sold in the past, all of them are the standard outlet style. as in your picture.

skillzilla: you may have the Z32 twin's....or another variation. that picture is the stock Z31.

You might actually have the t25 from the z31 that was produced in 88-89,

88-89's had higher compression w/t25's with a t3 ehaust flange, 84-87's had lower comrpession with T3 and T3 exhuast flange

The efficency range of the 84-87's are about 15psi, and im not sure about the 88-89's.

The turbo I have is way bigger than a Z32 twin, plus those have a 2-bolt inlet, not the standard 3" inlet from the MAFS.

Maybe your right Kansei. Im actually doin a junkyard run here tomorrow, goin to a new place that has some Z31's. What is the better choice, the T3 or the T25? Id assume the T3, thats also possibly the reason none of my oil lines matches up.

Anyways, Ill figure it out and post up some pics, see whats up.

also, onr more thing, has anyone tried to use a GReddy SR hotpipe on this turbo? I am using one now with the turbo end chopped off before the curve, thinkin maybe the curved end will match right up.

The T3's are what i'd go with they have a higher boost tolerance and better efficiency range, as well as a larger turbine housing obviously.
