Alright it looks like I have sourced a Z31 turbo from an 86'. I was wondering what is exactly involved in putting this turbo on my RB20DET.

I understand it will bolt to the manifold, but will I need to make new oil/water lines? And will the RB O2 housing bolt right onto the 300zx turbo? And are there any other problems that I need to worry about?

Have nothing relevant to add but pre-88 Z31's are T3. After that is T25. Has nothing to do with the market of origin I believe.

I have a z31 turbo in my garage... I pulled off my rb20 turbo to try and fit the z31 one but you need at least the z31 02 housing as well. I know the oil drain line will bolt right up

do you wanna sell the Z31 turbo? I am desperately in need of a turbo soon, and this seller I found wants to wait 3 weeks to send it to me .

Well I have been told that the Z31 turbo would be better mainly because it has a steel wheel. Corrrect me if I am wrong but it seems that all the RB T3's have ceramic wheels, and I have a FMIC, so I don't want to be limited to 12lbs once I get the other supporting mods, MAFS etc...

I have threee sellers with Z31 turbos right now, the only problem is they are moving like snails when it comes to sealing a deal.

Furthermore, does anyone know for sure that I will need the O2 dump pipe from the Z31 turbo. If I have noticed corectly both the RB and Z31 turbos have 6 bolt flanges, I juat haven't had them next to each other to compare whether everything lines up.

IIRC, the Z31 O2 pipe would be better anyway since it is cast steel (not cast iron) and can therefore be easily and reliably welded to a custom downpipe.

they would bolt right up but there are two studs on the z31 that wont fit up...
