Hey I am new to the Nissan world, I just bought a 1987 Nissan 300zx 98,000 miles that was sitting for 6 years. The car starts up and then dies out unless I keep the revs above 1.5rpm. I decided to do a tune up and while changing the plugs I noticed that cylinder 5 had oil and coolant on the spark plug when I pulled it, the car has a very very rough idle and smoke comes out from under the hood when the car is warm but it doesn't overheat at all. I'm lost Idk if I have a blown head gasket or a bad valve cover or what, please help the new guy out, thanx! It has a brand new maf, distributor, rotor, wires, plugs, synthetic oil and I poured something in the gas tank to stabilize it.

could be any number of things, a plug or plugs could be fouling out at low revs and only working as the revs increase, this hapens usually as a result of a damaged head or headgasket, could also be as simple as the aicv, these tend to get sticky and dirty and non function correctly, honestly it's rather unusual to have any trouble fomr such low miles, has the timing belt been changed? a compression test can also heltp you determine the source of your problems, I worry that someone didn't change a belt and popped it and damaged a valve or replaced the belt and cot one of the gears one toothe off

Hmmm, I am going to try to read the ecu codes and then move on to a compression test. I have no infio on the history of the car. I'm hoping it isnt a head gasket I will update once I get new info

I just did the self diagnostic test and the ecu code number was 41. is this the fuel temp sensor or air temp sensor?
