For anyone who is running a T3 from a z31 300zx on their KA24DE what manifold did you go with? Cuase looking at mine it's appears that if I go with a top mount manifold, the oil inlet will be positioned on the bottom, and the outlet drain on the top. And I'm not sure how that would allow oil to drain through the turbo, I think gravity would say otherwise  . But all of the manifolds I have found are all topmount, and I think I need a bottom mount. Anyone that can help me here, please do. I'm completely lost.

You can 'clock' the turbo - i.e. rotate the compressor housing with respect to the center section, and the same goes for the turbine (hot side).

And the JGS works well for home-brewed setups, but requires more downtime due to fabrication (cutting and welding the flange).

The RevHard will have fitment issues, but will work with a little ingenuity...

Thank You. I think I will try 'clocking' it and if that will work. Yeah I wanted to avoid going the JGS route. Do you think a competent muffler shop would be able to weld me a manifold?

I am researching using one of my z31 turbo's also. But.......i do belieive you will want a built manifold due to the thickness required to withstand the turbo heat, i dont believe your average muffler shop will be able to handle it.

I Could start a new thread but I searched and found this one.Orion mentioned "clocking the turbo". My Question is - what if it is internally wastegated? If you clock it would be impossible to mount the wastegate acuator again. So again does anyone make a bottommount manifold.

BTW, you sure you've got a ka24De in that 1990 fastback?

I guess you probably are, but checking just in case...

Thanks dude. Is that the only one. I don't think that manifold will work for me. The turbo sits too forward for my out pipe. oh btw . if you are talking to me , yes that is a Kade In my 91' coupe.

I'm probably about to get one custom made by psiracing in FL. And I saw on BackYardProductions site that they will top or bottom mount the turbo flange for you.

and actually my question about the De was for the guy who started the thread:

Here is a link to BYP:

It kinda looks like they went crazy on the runner routing, and its hard to say much about the quality just from the pics they have posted...

Harry at BYP said 675 for a mild-steel one, and about 2-3 weeks lead time.

I went with a JGS, top mounted it, clocked both sides of the turbo so that everything was where i wanted, and then replaced theactuator with a new one that had an aluminum bracket withslotted mounting holes...so you can slide it around till it lines up with the wastegate flapper. Working very well for me...

I am using a JGS manifold, and I bottom mounted the turbo. The reason I did this is because the turbo outlet has a seven bolt pattern that is unique to the Z31 turbo. You can't just use a standard T3 outlet flange. I had to bottom mount it so the turbo outlet elbow would point toward the exhaust. This also put the oil inlet and outlet in the right place. However, running it like this gives very tight clearance at the downpipe, turbo inlet, and oil outlet.

If you want to top mount it, you'll have to build a custom turbo outlet, and clock the turbo so the oil lines are in the right place. Then, you would have to build a custom bracket to mount the wastegate. Anyway you do it, it will require some work.

I almost wish now, that I had spent more money, and gone with a standard T3, but I did get my turbo for $25, so I guess I can't complain.

Woh, what a ghetto *** old thread. But when I bought the car, the VIN came up as being a 90 and it came with a DE. Heh, it's funny too look back and see how little I knew but you gotta start somewhere. As for the z31 T3, I ended up selling that. Here's my current setup....
