z31 steering problem

you all know i have a z31 turbo with no power steering. well today my steering decides to stick in cetain spots. for example i can turn the wheel then when i tur the wheel wont spin back it stays there. what could cause this please help.

The upper strut plates can cause this. The easiest was to chack them is to get the front end off of the ground and turn the wheels by hand and watch to see if anythin binds. If it is the strut plates you will deffinately see it pop back and forth.

Well, if you have no power steering, you probably are missing power steering lines. And if you're missing power steering lines, it's very likely that you're getting dirt and other crap in the power steering rack. And if dirt and other crap is getting in the power steering rack, then it will cause binding like you're having.

Replace the power steering rack and fix the power steering. Or, replace the power steering rack and block the holes so that nothing gets into them.

also I had the u-joint in the steering column of my z31 fail, replaced with a donor from a junkyard and solved that problem, and yeah all Z31's should have power steering

yeah mine was broken and i just got a new one and now its fine. thanks for the help guys.
