anyone know what trpe of diff is in the z31 turbo cars 1988-89 vintage.

is it an LSD ( R160) or (R200)? is there any parts interchange with other models?

all 84-89 300Z's came with an R200, 88 SS models came with the viscous and 88-89 turbo models came with clutch type LSD's, the ratios are all in the moderate range, and they all have the long snout R200 which is the same as the SX, the R200 is about the most common of Nissan rear ends and will interchange with lots of Nissans

Is the r200 the the toughest factory diff? does it have a limit to what it will hold?

the R200 can handle 500whp with no problems, but by that point your snapping half shafts and companion flanges, I'd guess the the R230 could take a bit more abuse but only a handfull of people have even Blown up an R200

I know this is the Z forum but you seem to know your rearends. Does the infiniti m30 (vg20e) use the R200 as well? I can't find that info, and I don't know if it came with an lsd from the factory either.

did a little digging (the M30 is kinda rare) yes the M30 had an R200 but the housing is about an inch longer than a standard R200 due to an extra speed/ans sensor, not sure if they has lsd or not, I've found conflicting info, it might have been an option? easy enough to find out, put your car in gear and jack up the rear, try turning 1 wheel, if it turns it's open if not it's a LSD, if you pop the halfshafts compare the ends that go into the diff if one is longer than the other then you have a VLSDif it's open and your wanting to upgrade a standard R200 LSD carrier will bolt in you'll just need to reuse your gears (beware there are 2 diffenert ring gear bolt sizes used in R200's(10mm & 12mm))

the 240sx with abs used the same diff, then? The R200 with the longer housing, I believe. Interesting, thanks for the info.
