Hey im lookin at a few cars i can buy and i wanted a drift car but i decided it really dosnt matter. i really like the looks of the z32 but i cant affoard one of them and the z31 is pretty sweet. i can get a white 87 300zx for 1500 it needs a fuel pump and it comes with it. or i could get a 1990 240sx with a little rust at the bottom of the door and it runs perfect for 500 bucks? i like putting mods on my cars and i know the 240 has alot more mods that can be done but the 300zx has so much more power. can you guys get me a big list of pros and cons so i can make this dreaded decesion?

for me, the answer is clear, it's gotta be a Z! for you maybe, the Z your looking at, is it a turbo? if it's nto a turbo you're milited on mods and power unless you do the swap, which is just extra expense and extra PITA, if your intent is to drift you might as well do the 240sx, plenty of them out there already

in no way can I recommend using a Z31 for drifting.

unless you're a master fabricator.

who needs to fabricate to drift, weld the diff, put on the heaviest springs you can find and some hard tires and add power..... your drifting, thats why I dislike srifting, it's the opposite of racing, you want to brake traction instead of keeping it

there is no question it takes some skill to make it look good but it's not a sport, the judging is arbitrary

the only reason i like 2 drift is because its really fun and i think thats all that matters but... i only get to drift a few times a month regardless so i was thinkin of makin a mean *** z31 just cause they got nice potential. And by the way the 87 300zx im lookin at is turbocharged with the t3 turbo not the t25 or what ever the early years had.

the early cars had the T3, when they went to the "w" series engines they upped the compression ratio and went to the smaller T25 turbo, if you can find a late 87 through 89 tahts ideal becasue they came with the stock CLSD, just look under the car for the finned diff cover, if so you got a winner for sure, those things sell on ebat for over $600!

First off z31's do drift!! I should know, I learned to drift in an 84 2+2 300zx. Fun old car. Drove like an oversized go-cart to use my friends actual words. lol.

Anyways, go for the z, nobody drifts z31's and now that I got a 240 (Z had problems, 240 was perfect and basically a newer version of the z lol) I'm not drifting my z anymore, so definately you'd win on origionality with the z.

Go for it. Be unique. I'm getting a 86 Turbo z as soon as I can afford it as my DD. They're great highway cars too.

If you are drifting or wanting to, best bet would be the s13 or 14. Personaly, I would roll the z31 any day of the week over the 240sx. Classic z style and personality with a VG between the frame rails is alot cooler than an s14 with a SR or KA.

Cheers!!!
