Z31 oil problem Help please

Ok so I may be trading my S13 for a 1987 N/A 300zx. It has an issue with the oil though. Basically it takes a long time to go back into the oil pan. Example: We started it yesterday and let it run for a few minuites. Then I went to chck the oil about 5 min. later. It showed no oil on the dip stick. Then I waited another ten and it showed a little bit. After about 45 min. It showed a decent amount on the dip stick. Now I know it takes a litle time to go back into the pan but this just doesn't seem right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Moved to the Online Mechanic OK thats cool. Don't matter to me I just hope I get a good responce. I am really worried about this problem.

Has any extensive work been done to this car recently ,engine wise? like head gaskets or something. If not try running a quart of Atf in with the oil then drain it out and refill it with engine oil. see if that makes a difference.
