z31 Help!

my brake lights and running tail lights do not turn on at all!. checked all fuses replaced all fuses with new ones yesterday. i know of the sensor in the trunk .. is there a relay or somthing iam missing? it started when i replaced the after market stereo the previous owner had a mess in the audio harness cleaned it up but now back lights dont work. also my headlights now do not flip up or down .;.... does anyone know where the ground is for the rear lights? blinkers work... emergency lights work... any ideas?

if you pull the plastic trim panel that goes across the rear you'll be able to see the ground, it's near the bottom ont eh passanger side if memory serves

thanks! do you know if the ignition relay does anything with the back lights? i looked up a diagram only thing i can come up with

Your brake lights and tail running lights should be on different fuses. Look for the common links in the circuit like evildky said, the ground portion.

ok so i got the brake lights working now by replacing all the bulbs.. now i got a new problem... every time i step on the brakes my gauge and dash lights light up... and side rear lamps.... but when i let go.. everything turns off leaving me with no running tail lamps.... wtf! also i noticed when i step on the brake my rpm goes up and idles better ,... when i let go of the brakes the rpm goes lower and idles funny.. biggest headache ever.. idk wtf to do now

Hello! Clue? It worked until you hooked up the stereo wrong. Go back and redo the stereo.

I'm guessing you bought the wrong bulbs. Or it's still related to your poorly wired stereo.

Disconnect the illumination wire. The Z31 uses a floating ground for the dash lights and it's likely the source of your problems.

I re did everything using the 84 diagram for the audio .. i have done stereos before.. the problem started when i disconnected the old not working stereo the previous owner left live wires just stuffed in there so when i pulled it touched metal and started blowing fuses....

i dont remember if i connected the illumination wire or not i will double check this thanks for the info!!

The Z31 uses a common ground for the speakers. How did you wire them? Did you run new wire for the fronts? Rears? All?

.... Why did you leave the battery connected when messing with electrical in your car?
