If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry. Move on and save yourself the trouble of researching it. If you do know what it is and you desire some things here's the scoop. I just got home from a junkyard that has a complete ZR31 2+2 in it. I'm grabbing the whole rear suspension and the front struts as well as the 1st gen RB20 valve covers.

If you are thirsting for some JDM goodies tell me what you're after. I'm going back in about a month because I need to build up some cash because they have several other cars I intend to rape and I'm going to pitch it as a shopping list. No guarantee the guy will go for the deal, but if he does I want to have the other stuff listed as well. ;)

A "ZR31". LOL. You're funny. Do you mean a 200ZR or a 300ZR? Completely different.

What year is it? I might be interested in the rear license plate light if it's the early style. And maybe the main instrument cluster and steering wheel.

Yup that's it. The one where they said,"hey, let's pretend we are Subaru and put the intercooler on top of the durned engine!"

So it's a 200ZR. But that still doesn't help with the year. And you're going back in a month? Hmmm... Do cars sit around that untouched for that long there? I know that if I went back in a week, most of the yards would have all new cars cycled through and there wouldn't be any remainders of a car that had been there the previous weekend, let alone a month ago.

PS: The 200ZR started production in 1985. When did Subaru first place an intercooler on top of their engine?

he did indicate it had an rb20, making it a 200zr

nissan has been putting intercoolers on top of their motors for as long as they have been using intercoolers, thinking s12 was the first nissan in the states with the i/c on top of the ca18et in 84, which was also the first intercooled nissan in the states, the z didn't get an intercooler untill 1990 wiht the z32 (in the US of course)

ford also starting doing that in the 80's on the turbo 2.3, the 83 mustang gt was available with the the turbo 2.3 a year before they offered it as an "SVO"

and while subaru did start turboing the brat in 82 I don't think it was intercooled (the spare tire was in the way), I don't think they started with the top mounted intercooler till much later, although it does make more sense for them as the heads aren't in the way so there is actually room for air to flow

The S12 CA18DET had a finned crossover pipe, as did the mighty RB20ET. They were headed in the right direction.

I am pretty confident the first production Nissan with a real intercooler was the DR30 turbo C FJ20ET.

Nice score with the 1st Gen Valve covers.

Was wondering if the covers from the gt engine come from a production car..

No. The first gen RB covers are red with lengthwise ribs. The GT covers are sexy.

^ I know so. And 1 Gen look sexy when the paint on the ribs are sanded off. I am debating if I want a set.
