I have an '88 300zx that has been torn down for a v8 swap (I bought it with a blown engine and a shorted underhood harness). My Z has some serious rust issues around the passenger side firewall. The "frame" (not sure of the correct term, since the car is unibody) rail at the firewall where the slave cylinder rubber hose bracket bolts on and all the brake/fuel lines converge and head to the back of the car is rotted away. It looks as if water leaked in onto the battery tray (its also rusted away) and into a vent hole in the "frame" and ate the structure on that side of the car.

I've heard of this happening to 240sx's and older Z's, but not the Z31. Does anyone know of a replacement rail that I can buy? I've found rails for the 240, but I'm not sure if they will work for the Z31.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

if it's made of metal it car rust, the Z32's are at an age where rust is becomming an issue, as for your car, it just depends on your skills and abilities, if you can cut and weld and make decent repairs on your own have at, if not, start looking for a mroe solid car, when dealing with older cars it's just not worth dealing with a lot of rust, spend a few bucks for a better chassis and will likely save you in the long run if you have to pay for the repairs
