I am checking out an idea.

Would any of you RB gurus happen to know if the bolt pattern and bolt hole size of a Z31 VG30E bellhousing is comparable to a RB20DET bellhousing?

What I mean specifically is, will the bellhousing from a Z31 bolt up to an RB20DET motor? Are there other differences that even though they might bolt up would prevent someone from using that combination? Tunnel clearance is not an issue in this case.

I figure TMS would know for sure at least...

i was looking into this same thing, I'm going to pick up a FS5R30A for my other RB25 motor. It looks very simillar to the RB25 transmission. from what i know the bell housing line up to some of the holes. i will be doing some mods on to have it total bolt-in to the rb block.

I don't mess with VGs, life is difficult enough as it is. I would suspect the likelihood of a 60 degree V6 having a compatible pattern to an I6 would somewhere in the region of zero. An FJ box will bolt up if you remove one dowel and leave out a bolt.

So, if we were to say, bolt an RB20 into an S12... would we have to use the R32 crossmember? I know for a fact the USDM S12 VG crossmember will not bring the RB far enough forward to clear the firewall and get the shifter to match the hole. Then thinking about it, what would it take to avoid getting a custom driveshaft for it? I am not made of stinking money here, lol.

i wouldnt be suprised if you could just bolt the 26/25 bell housing to the z31/frontier trans...i noticed this same thing when i was at a local shop.

You can definitely bolt the 25/26 bellhousing to a z31t transmission. I did it.

From what I was able to gather, it was not possible with the Z31 n/a trans. I never looked into it very far, because the z31t trans was one I got from a buddy.

Evan

Oh, and the z31 bellhousing won't bolt up from what I remember.

that is definately an option; the problem is a rb25/6 bell housing isn't easily available anywhere that i know off. i don't think modifying the holes on the z31 bell housing is an issue to mount to the rb block.
