i have a 86 hardbody with the z24i tbi engine. just recently it started running very bad. when you drive down the street it is fine until you go past about 1/2 throttle then it falls on its face. i have torn the throttle body all apart and cleaned it and replaced the gaskets but it still does it. i feel like one of the fuel injectors may be dead, but thats just a guess. any ideas?

I had this exact year and model back in 2004. I have heard about the fuel injectors going bad, but I'm glad mine didn't because I didn't have the internet back then and I never would have known that you can swap a carb onto a TBI Z24 motor and still use the stock compuer controlled ignition. There is a thread here (it's not that far down on the list) explaining how to swap a Weber carb in place of the TBI unit, and it works good. I suppose any 2bbl carb you could get would probably work, and a used Motorcraft carb might be an idea. You would get more power with a carb, that's for sure. As far as jetting a Motorcraft, I don't know about that but somebody does. There is info on Webers here. Maybe a Holley 350 would even work. All I know is that the old TBI stuff is more obsolete than even a carburetor.
