Hey guys, I have a question about a step of the install process of the Z1 short shifter, so I'm sorry in advance if this sounds like a dumb question. I couldn't for the life of me get the nylon washers that are supposed to go on the part that bolts to the shift linkage fork to stay on while attempting to install the shifter. I decided to leave them off, since I couldn't really see how two plastic-like washers would really help at all. I made sure not to over-tighten the bolt, and everything shifts smoothly and easily. Will I run into any problems by not having those washers in place? Thanks everyone.

I would guess they are more for noise reduction than tightening.

That'd certainly be nice, it's good though that it's already quiet. I'm just more worried about potentially prematurely wearing anything out.

No not those just the two nylon washers that supposedly need to go on either side of the shifter ball section of the shifter and inside the fork of the shift linkage. I'm just wondering if those are really needed.

The nylon washers are there to keep crude out of the bearing and to provide a low friction surface between the linkage and shifter. They are a pain to install. There is an easy way to fix this, use electrical tape to keep the washers on the bearing and cutout the center section of the tape so the bolt has room to go through. No need to bother taking the tape off.

Hey guys just an update I used the scotch tape trick and managed to get them squeezed in. Thanks for the help and advice!
