I bought a Z1 motorsports short trow shifter less than two moths ago, I put it on the car (after hours of fighting with putting screws and nuts on such of tight place) and it worked great!!!! But today I go to move the Z in the garage and felt the shifter loose, as in not tight. And when I try to put it on reverse I couldn't find it!!! It took about 3 attemps to get into gear. When I say I couldn't find it I mean that I was pulling the shifter back and had to pull hard to find the gear, like it was being held by a rubber. I took off everything (rubber boots and plate) and when I get to the shifter theres grease coming out of the bottom of the polish shifter.

Now the car has only been driven no more than 10miles In the 2 months since I'm still working on the car, WTF happend??????? I'm gonna call them first thing in the morning and ask for a replacement part.

...there is no grease in the shifter other than to lubricate the contact surfaces, sounds like the support brracket might have broken, this is a typical issue

The bracket is ok, nothing wrong with it. I took a closer look at the Z1 shifter (it's pretty dark outside) and saw that the rubber boot on the bottom of the shifter ripped, thus the lubrication grease comming out.

How the FU*K did this happend?!?!?!?!?! I can't think of what couldve done this

could have been poor install or poor quality parts... hard to tell without more people chiming in.

it shouldn't be packed with grease, it's just there to lubricate the driction fo the ball against the bushing, if a bit of grease comes out it's because the socket had to much grease i it and is nothing to be concerened about

if the thing fell apart thats a part issue, if ot came detached somewhere thats an installer error whihc si what this sounds to be, a shifter isn't a compley piece fo machinery, it's just a ball and socket

I have the Z1 shifter guys i had to assemble it and install it and have yet to have an issue 1 1/2 year later, you will feel the throw difference incredibly but retains stock height, worth it imo.

I called this morning and talk to Z1, they said to send it back and they would replace whatever broke. The shifter was working fine but out of nowhere this happened. I followed every step of the instructions provided by Z1, I even took off the side panels of the center console to have more room. The shifter also has little vertical movement, as in you can move the shifter up and down. It's just a pain in the a*s having to take everything apart when you have no time.

IMHO either the Silvertwin or Woody75 shifter is the best deal out there. I think it's $75 plus your old shifter as a core. I have the Woody75 version and it works great, been 7 years now no issues.

I have the Z1 short throw, i love it. at times it is difficult to get into 1st or reverse from a dead stop, but if i let out the clutch, then reengage it, it normally goes right in gear.. i guess the gears get stuck or something.. idk, but i never had that problem with the stock shifter.. and there was a little bit of grease on the bottom part of my shifter when i took it out of the box, but i havent had any issues with it other than what i mentioned above..

i bought their AMS short shifter. the install was a pain in the a** but the drive is real nice. i never thought the stock shifter was bad, i just wanted an aftermarket one because of the high height of the stock shifter.

in my case, the car has only been driven no more than 10 miles. And it hasn't been ruff shifting, but instead suspension and exhaust test drives. Mine fell about 1/2" too, you can actually move it up and down. I'm taking the shifter off tomorrow and sending it back, since I have some time in the morning.

I already did and it's fine, a little wear and tear do to 19 years of service but still good. I re-installed the oem shifter and is working fine like before. I sent the Z1 shifter back to them and I'm waiting on their phn call.
