Does Kuhmo make a Z rated tire? An accord driving friend of mine swears his Kuhmo 225/40R 18's are Z rated. However I have not seen any Z rated kuhmos advertised online.

Anyone know?

I believe they do, but I'm not certain of the size.

They make quite a few.I have kumho ecsta 712's on my Q45 they are Z rated (245/40 18's) and also Kumho ViktoRacers ( AutoX tires with real strong sidewalls and a 50 treadwear rating) in 225-50 -16s on my S13.

Tirerack says,

"Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 tires feature black letter styling and are available in 55-, 50-, 45-, 40- and 35-series; H-, V- and Z-speed rated sizes for 14" to 18" wheel diameters."

What is a Z rated size?

I though the speed rating had to do with the tire compound, tread pattern, and design. Not the size. (I am still learning about tires tho, bear with me pls.)

When I search them for the 225/40R -18 size, they all come out W or Y rated.

Z rating is a speed rating, meaning that it can withstand a certain speed for a given amount of time without blowing up. it has nothing to do with size.

Z rated tires only come in certain sizes, and I think he was asking if Kuhmo's make Z rated tires in that size.

W and Y are equal to or greater than Z.

http://www.cjtire.com/pdfs/Tir...n.pdfPlease read this basic link. The info is good.

Upon reflection, my previous post isn't completely understandable.

You can get a W or Y that is equal to the Z rating, as the Z starts within the ranges of W and Y, and then to 'unlimited' whatever that's supposed to mean.

At that piont you can bet Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli and others are doing built-to-order tires for exotics.
