SO, I just got done re-installing the factory air filter box, fuel filter & hoses, oil dipstick & added some oil cause it was low. I haven't been able to check the level cause the previous owner had cut the dipstick off near the top. I ordered one from Nissan. When I started the car, it sounded like something was hitting. My first thought was the fan. I listened for it, sounded like from around the oil tube. I shut the car off, pulled the dipstick. It was slightly bent & the level indicator was gone all the way up to the "H" mark. WTF happened? When I put the cut off one back on & started, it sounded smooth. Is it safe to drive or do I need to pull the pan to see if the piece or pieces are in there? Why would it hit inside of there like that?

That sucks... the only thing I could think of is if it took a bad bend and somehow got up into the rotating assembly.

I can't remember if they are magnetic or not, but I'd definitely try to fish it out with a magnet (unlikely) or check your oil filter before pulling the pan. Cut the filter open if you have to just to find it.
Its also possible that it just lodges itself in the baffles of the oil pan somewhere, OR sticks to the oil pickup tube.

Not sure how it bent in there though. I'm gonna jack it up tomorrow & pull the pan. Hopefully it's in there. I don't wanna risk driving it until then. Is there an easy way to go about doing that? Well, not easy, but easier.

Actually Im gonna try an oil change & check the filter before I take drastic measures. Cut the filter open like you stated as well. Only about 1/2"-3/4" of the gauge part is missing. Its rounded off just a little before the "H".

I thought you essentially had to pull the engine to get the pan off... I could be wrong though.

Pretty much. You gotta raise it & support the engine.
