This is a 1970 Datsun 510. The customer brought us the car and wanted a very unique build. She wanted us to install an SR20DET, she wanted to keep the factory a/c system, and she wanted to keep the car an automatic. This car is a column shift car from factory..... I like challenges like this.

Here are pics of the build, I hope you like it!

Here is the picture of the stock engine bay

Here is the engine coming out...duh!

The engine bay and x-member before we re-fabricated it to fit the front sumped SR20

The newly re-made x-member...

Here is the new powerplant set in on our custom made mounts

Now we polished the valve cover, installed the top mount manifold, polished the turbo, and installed the turbo:

Then we made the shifter linkage... The shifter moves an arm up and down, which is connected to another linkage the rotates, which is connected to another linkage that shifts the trans... Worked perfectly!

Then we installed the SR2- a/c compressor and fabricated our own a/c lines to the ones that came on the car from factory... We also wrapped them in fire sleeve to protect them from heat

Then we decided to use an air to water intercooler instead of air to air. This way, we did not have to cut the radiator support and we could keep the a/c condenser in front of the radiator.. Made for a clean install.

Hot side intercooler pipe we routed under the engine

Then through a hole under the battery tray

All in all, this finished product was fun and fast. We plumbed the heat exchanger into the back of the car and added a 10" fan to it. The car doesn't have any heat issues and runs perfectly!

I hope you like it...
Doug

Install looks nice and clean. I do have some questions, though.

What turbo is that?
What are you using for engine management?
What size fuel injectors? (Looks like the stock 370cc purple tops)

It was a T3/T4 Garrett, OEM injectors, 12psi of boost, stock ECU, Fever Racing ROM tuned ECU. Same as Enthalpy. Martin (who owns Enthalpy) is our tuner and has been working for us for many years....

I really don't see how 370cc injectors will keep up with 12psi on a t3/t4... They barely keep up with 12psi on a T28...

Did you install a wideband?

I'm not trying to talk down on this build, but that turbo with those injectors is a combination for some seriously lean conditions. If you had it rom tuned anyway, why not install some 550s?

Very simple reason really........we have customer's that have budget restrictions. We are a shop and our customer ran outa cash! We can't "make" them spend money they don't have. If it were my car it would be running a fully built SR20, a GT30R (3071) w/ 740's, a Z32 MAF, and a custom stainless manifold that we would have made here in house. I completely appreciate your opinions and knowledge. If you look at the work we have done (and I know you have) you know we are aware of what should be done.. We have been building Nissan's for 23 years now.
We went ahead and tuned the ECU because the customer didn't live near us. When they upgrade the injectors we will be able to simply send them new E-proms to install in the ECU. When we tuned it at 12 psi it had a perfect 10.8:1 fuel mixture.

10.8's rich (Garrett recommends 11.5), but it works, and that's extremely understandable with a rom tune and the situation with turbo compared to injectors in this particular build. Either way, I do enjoy your builds and hope you keep posting them.

I like the air to water IC placement and the fact that it has A/C.

My good friend Kevin Desirello does SR swaps into Roadsters... He built a GORGEOUS one for his mom with an Autech N/A SR and an automatic. Such a sweet ride.
