Amazing that the 1990 300zx cost as much as it did. Adjusted for inflation, that's over $40k for the base model in today's dollars. Actually, it's kind of the norm for a lot of cars. Back out inflation, and a lot of cars today are cheaper than they were 10-15 years ago and, in most cases, a lot better to boot.

78 was the first year for black? I didn't realize that one. I kne Andrew's 70 was repainted, but didn't know that all the other early Z cars that I have seen in black were repainted too. That's good info to know.

That picture does a good job of showing how much more square the 260Z 2+2 was.

Good info guys. What were the chassis designations pre-Z31? Still Z30, etc? seems odd to start at Z29...so that doesn't make much sense.

Almost. But the Z28 was a performance options package for the Camaro, not a specific generation. The Camaro was the F-body, along with the (much less attractive) Firebird. Unlike Nissan and most Japanese auto-makers, GM used single digit chassis codes. The current Corvette, for instance, is the C6.

You probably already knew that, though.

in 1987 the 300ZX got an engine redesign. the "W" block VG30E(T). it had a longer crank snout and a different pulley and belt setup.

AZ-ZBum - didn't they gain the 5 hp in 87 as well?

Nope. Wasn't until 88 models that they upped the compression and changed the turbo that the turbos got 5hp more. The NAs may have gotten this additional 5hp in late 87, but no documents state that.

This is incorrect. The first year Nissan sold a convertible Z was 1993. Prior to this, all convertible Z's were conversions. Most were done by R.Straman Co.

Is 1993 the first year for a USDM vert?

The info I have on the 1991 convertible posted was from a Nissan publication.

all three don't list a convertible Z32 until 1993.

What Nissan publication?

You could always ask a Z32 specific site if you don't believe me.http://www.twinturbo.nethttp://www.300zxclub.cometc.

It was a promo piece (one of many that I have collected over the years) introducing the 350z concept. Looks like it was wrong (no real surprise).

It wasn't that I didn't believe you I was just wanting to get the sorce right.

Thanks a bunch!

I'll make the change and add what needs to be added soon. Then we can make it a bit more pretty to look at than just the text.

not 50'th anny for Z but 50'th for Nissan.... the anny package was only availible on the Z. my math isn't off just my wording made it a big confusing I guess.

1984 50th Anniversary Edition - 5148 produced for the US.Only option they had was automatic or 5 speed. Otherwise, exactly the same. Celebrated Nissan's 50th Birthday.http://www.az-zbum.com/information.50th.ae.shtml

1988 Shiro Special - 1002 produced for the US.No options. All were exactly the same. Part of Nissan's white sale.http://www.az-zbum.com/informa...shtml

I've seen quite a few of these "rare" beasts in Phoenix. I own one of the 50ths.

I've also seen a few 10th Anniversary Editions (both red and gold) and even a couple 1977 Z-Z-Zap!. But I have yet to see a ZX-R.
