Post

Hello y'all, I'm posting this to ask a favor.

Some of you might have seen the videos I post on youtube. I enjoy it, and I started the whole thing because I was offering long-distance help to my brother... then I would face problems I couldn't find in video form. Realizing a lot of people were visual learners, I kept it up.

At some point, I decided to monetize my channel. I figured if people were going to see ads anyway, I might as well pocket some change. It was pretty late in the game and I promise I have no illusions of quitting my job to upload clickbait videos any time soon.

Recently, youtube made some changes. To summarize, they will kick smaller youtube channels out of making money unless they have 4,000 hours of view time in the past year or 1,000 subscribers.
I checked and in the past year I barely cracked the time requirement. My subscriber count has grown like a population of bunnies lately, but I'm only a little over 250 as of this posting.

This is where I need your help. Honestly, I like making some money from my hobbies. Again, the money I made doesn't even come close to the time input to recording and retaking videos and editing them to provide short, concise and relevant youtube content. (No funny jokes about my editing skills please, thanks. Lol)
In fact, my biggest plan was that I would gather enough money to buy a decent DSLR camera to record better videos. In this day and age, I have been wrangling my Samsung galaxy s4 and that is getting old. Fine communication device, but I have missed out on some opportunities where I wished I had better.

This is where I need your help. Please subscribe to my youtube channel, below. I promise I won't force any political or religious opinions down your throat; just automotive content. Heck, even then I always uncheck the box that sends notifications to my subscribers so it's pretty unintrusive.

Any other youtube creators, post your channel link and I shall return the favor.

Sincerely,
Just a po' boy

I got my fiance a Cannon T6 for a damn good price on there and she absolutely love it. I (we) appreciate the hard work you have put into the videos. Subscribed also. Thank you bro.

Thanks airman, and everybody else adding to the count. Y'all are the real MVPs.

And thanks for the link. I think the first time I ever encountered slickdeals was years ago, and I avoided it due to the aggressive presence in every other unrelated website I went to (felt a little spammy, creepy). They've come a long way and have some good stuff (You could say the same about CarGurus btw, these days I seek them out. lol)
I had settled on a Nikon D3300 because of googling "best DSLRs for video" and seeing what was most affordable at the time. This is going to be my first and since it will see a lot of garage action, I'm all about keeping the costs down. I'll have to look up the list again and see what deals are on the website - not stuck on Nikon.

What the people want, the people will probably get. :gapteeth:

What do you have in mind, a remove/replace instructional?

I replaced my right CC but I spaced on doing a writeup on that. I followed the FSM and took about 4-5 hrs. I don't recall the exact amount of time but wasn't too hard of a job.

Some things I had issues was with the rusted bolts on the Y pipe. They might need some PB Blaster before you work on them. The angle on the CC get a little tricky when you get towards the headers but doable. But if no videos out there (yet) you can follow the FSM :bigthumb:

I am willing to continue for sure. Pre-youtube I always found myself taking pics and mostly videos as I did car stuff. The only thing that changed is that these days I record the videos in a format assuming that I'm teaching someone rather than short ramblings that only I would understand.
So, I will still have a library of videos, and I just need time and motivation to sit and edit them. I am getting better at making videos that require minimal edits though.

I also need to catch myself and adhere to planned video sessions because sometimes I am walking by the car and decide to just tweak one or 2 things then find myself inadvertently completing a huge task and thinking, "Dang! That would have been a nice video to show!" One such example is the dashboard removal process while I was stripping my car. I had it out in about 45 minutes. Well, the whole car stripping process would have been fun to see. Then there are all these engine replacements that I've done.

This other reason is goofy but it ties up with the scheduling issue. I have 3 batteries for my phone and none of them can seem to keep the thing juiced up long enough. Since I mostly deal with cars at the end of the day, it's a gamble as to whether the phone will be ready for the task. That is why I want a dedicated camera for car stuff... I am not ready to upgrade phones yet since it still works (just constantly plugged like a landline), so I have been telling myself, "If I want a camera for youtube videos, then it needs to be bought with youtube money". Maybe it should go the other way whereby I need to just buy it and then have youtube money return dividends on the new quality videos.

With the Feb 20 deadline they had set fast approaching, I am falling a little short on the subscriber count still.
However, I realize if I make this target clawing and clammering, then they are just going to make the goalposts smaller and move them further away and I'll miss the next target.
That's not the way to live, for me.

At this moment, I am not working based off motivation to make youtube money. I recently found a deal on a decent Nikon D3300 and while I figure out how to work it, I will retrain my focus on the main reason I got on youtube and the forums - I like to teach and share.
If/when I find a better platform to move my 100+ public videos, then I'll take them down from youtube due to principle. I toyed around with the idea of a personal website.
