I hope this turns out to be as fun for everyone as I hope it to be.

Ground rules:
Be nice. This is not the place to pick a fight with someone else. We have a slew of threads here for that. That being said, I think we have a level of, I won't say respect, more tolerance of each others' divergent views, that should allow us to have some fun and listen to some good tunes.

Premise:
Try to find a song that captures some of your political views. It doesn't have to be all encompassing, and if there are some parts you want to distance yourself from so your views are fairly represented, point em out. The whole point is to get some good music, perhaps understand each other a little better. What entertains us says a lot about us and beyond political views, we are individuals with unique perspectives and no (insert political demographic) is like their fellow whatevers in all respects. Our musical choices, if they are chosen not just for the music, but also for the content, help to humanize a policy position and put your spirit into it. I for one am interested in knowing all of you better regardless of whether we have any common ground on the issues.

For my part. I'm predominantly of a Libertarian persuasion with a left-leaning social opinion and right-leaning fiscal one. I do not belong to a party and I view parties as a tool to divide and suppress independent thought and accountable government. I don't view Democrats as my enemies, nor Republicans, Liberals or Democrats. I view the entrenched system my enemy. It's populated, invested in, and protected by all manner of demographically-identified practitioners who share the common cause of the status quo. They seek to close as many entry points into the club as possible to maintain their power, their perks, and their lifestyles while the average American toils in legal and financial bondage eeking out whatever scraps of prosperity and liberty the ruling class allows them to keep.

IF YOU HAVE ISSUE WITH THIS, IF YOU HAVE ISSUE WITH THE STATEMENTS OF ANYONE ELSE IN THIS THREAD WHEN INTRODUCING THEIR SELECTION, TAKE IT UP WITH THEM IN ANOTHER THREAD. THIS ONE IS ABOUT MUSIC AND POSITIVITY.
I'll delete any attacks and ask that other staff do the same to keep this one friendly and vibrant. Now, if the music sucks, ridicule may be allowed. :chuckle:

One that really hits pretty close to where I am coming from is this pennywise jam. LYRICS! NSFW. :couch

Never said I liked the band. Love the song and lyrics.

Here's one from a band I *DO* love (my favorite, in fact), and it fits as well:

Digging that. The 60's were an interesting time. Great cars too.

Been doing it since birth. I get more determined with age. I will not bow down to the mob, bring it!
