That is kinda rediculous. A hundred grand though is not that much considering major league salary.

like it said in the story, he would win an appeal because it is free speach. They can't legally fine him for saying something so long as it is true or not slanderous. Since they think it is somewhat slanderous, they fined him, but in order to appease the Yankees organization, he will pay the fine (goes to a good cause too).

eh, Yankees suck

go A's!:D

I'm a Boston fan. I'm required to hate the Yankees.

Case in point....

I think he should have known better than to write some of those things.Just because you have a publisher backing you, it isn't an excuse for slander....

There is probably something in his contract that holds him liable for talking trash. Dont really care anyway, never was a big baseball fan. Real men play football!

I think that David Wells is a moron who deserved what he got. Sure he was fined 100,000 for his writings but he makes so much more than that that it's really not a big deal for him. It's a much bigger deal what he said about the organization and the people in it.

Right on!!!

I don't hate, I LOATHE the Yankees. Still, that tub-o-lard David Wells deserves a fine for spouting his mouth about an organization's that's kept him very, very well-fed.

I love baseball, but I'm really bothered by the 'masses' of out-of-shape "athletes" like said pitcher, roaming our ballparks come fall... Dude, if you're getting millions of dollars a year, hit the treadmill man.
