249,000 on a 89' SOHC- runs better now than it did at 100,000- never been into engine- no timing chain rattle- and I drive it like I stole it. Synthetic oil since break in- PTFE treatments @ 150,000 & 200,000. Mobil 1 rocks.

Longetivity of any engine depends alot on how clean the oil is kept, environmental conditions (dusty roads or clean highway) top quality filters and regular maintenance.

Most of these engines are done in by 150K due to faults in the above.

Like I said, mine runs as strong or stronger than it did 5 years ago- but I don't trust it like I did back then anymore- too many things that can go wrong.

Maintained well, these things are just getting broken in good at 75,000 to 100,000 miles. And I wouldn't hesitate to slap a turbo on a well maintained one with that many miles.

I'm not sure if the DOHC holds out the same or not with the more complex timing chains and all- but I would suspect it should have similar life.

Somewhere just shy 160000. Timing rebuild and new injectors at 155K, it runs great, better than it ever has with the new injectors.

Since several things between the KA and SR are interchangeabe it would be sweet if the injectors were the same or bigger than stock size and would fit lol. O well =p

91k on a 91? wow dude thats freakin low *** mileage....

when you talk about regular maintainence, i get oil changes but the guy told me i should change my transmission fluid and get an engine flush...i bought this car not too long ago so i dont know when the last time is that he got those things done...what exactly is an engine flush anyways? also i plan on getting a tune up soon...i think my timing is a bit retarded because it seems a little sluggy and i could use some new sparkies

I have a 95 with 156,000 and all I have changed is the waterpump. I know that my oil pressure is a little lower than factory specs so I will probably replace the oil pump soon. You should change your transmission and rear diff fluid every 3rd oil change or so. Factory oil pressure should be between 60-70psi at 3000rpms, at normal operating temp mine reads about 54psi, somewhat low but not harmful since I change it every 3000 or less. As long as you take good care of the engine teh sky is the limit, now something will eventually break but thats life. Hope that helps!

Had a 185K on a 93 before I swapped it because it had a bad tensioner for a 90K motor(free) before I realized the 90K had a bad tensioner too.

I have a S14 with 168K+ miles and she's running strong. Just recently gave her a full tune up and she drives better than the day I got her.

169k miles, have had a few probs with it though, but fixed now. Real leaky rear main oil seal, noisy lifters, bad plug wires (caused horrible acceleration), of course bad clutch, and plugs. Thats only probs ive had with it. My odo stopped too so 169k is estimate, give or take 1k.

169k

Needs new spark plugs, Other wise runs like a tank... Still produces a really loud and throaty intake sound and really smooth low pitch exhuast sound with no pops or anything....

Although i do get idle iregularities sometimes, during braking off from the highway... but thats about it.

My '90's sohc blew at 97,000. I had the car for two weeks... No wonder it was so cheap. Now shes got a 95 dohc that just turned 99,000.

My new '93 has 135k and I swear, I think it runs stronger than my 95. Minus the slipping clutch.

Both get 30mpg on the highway in fifth @ 80mph.
