Nighttime, driving on the highway, cars all around. Suddenly a cop appears to your left. Are you in California? Yes. This means you're screwed if he pulls you over and checks under your hood. But your car's a sleeper on the outside, what gave it away? YOUR GAUGES!! The light from them cascading over your face gives it away (although cops would never really pull you over just from that. Total bs if they do. Which they won't. Ever.) And there's the fix-it ticket for the over-tinted driver's side window (wait... tinting it isn't allowed i think), the muffler with the over-95-db-sound (or so he says), the almost-violet hyper lights blinding the rest of traffic, and the list goes on.

If only the colors of your gauges were indiscreet. Damn.

...

Anyways,
I'm just interested in what color gauges you guys got and why. I'm thinking about running red Glow Shift Tinted gauges. Trying to go with a black/dark red theme all over the car, getting the carbon fiber dash trim kit in red from auto city imports, and a custom shift boot and e-brake in black with red stitching. What's your guys' preference in gauge colors (if you guys do have colored ones) and why? Theme based as well, matching the cluster custom install backlight color you did, or didn't care and just got whatever? Post up pics if you'd like. I'll have mine done... in the summer, lol. No really though, it'll be done in the summer. No lie.

The inside of my car is black and charcoal theme. But for for the overall car im throwing in accents of green. Small things like my quick release, e-brake button, and key light. It goes with my Slippy Toad theme

White face and white lights, hooked up on the dimmer and keep them as low as possible. But thank God I'm not in CA.

I use the generic Sunpro gauges with the regular bulbs in them. I put my gauges in the dash instead of using a pillar pod for this reason. Although if someone is driving a Marked F150 which some police officers do drive around here in construction zones, or Suburban you kinda screwed lol. Looks like a cockpit from an airplane with everything glowing.
This is an older pic.

Prosport white because I like the way it looks.
Amber is easier on the eyes at night though.

They are dumb if you gotta shift a little after the vtec kicks in yo. :rotfl

On a serious note, they should only be used in high HP drag cars, drifting, road racing . For the street, you should be able to hear the engine's harmonics to be able to tell when to shift. I find it annoying on cars that absolutely have no performance mods with a big ricer body kit and coffee can.

I like to play my music pretty loud when im driving around so i cant really hear the engine. I usually do it on how fast im going. I would think you would need it less in high hp cars because you can usually hear them better. idk maybe its just me

I plan on getting red LED's in my gauge cluster. Then maybe black faced gauges with red LED's or white LED's.

I liked the color of my girls old passat and 09 Tiguan. Red with purplish/blue. Perfect for night driving. I think they recently changed their VW color scheme for car lighting and gauges.

Key ring light is off of a Z32. I carved up the plastic piece thats around the ignition a little bit and it fits like a glove. I actually found that the plastic piece from the 180sx doesn't fit too well around the z32 key ring.

NX1600 cluster

im actually going to rip it out, sell it, and go back to the old analog gauges. and go all amber.

the cluster has a crazy OOhh Ahhh factor at first, but then after a while, all the glamour goes away.

I run red bulbs in mine. Several of my stock bulbs had blown out in the gauge cluster, and i've always preferred amber and red for gauge lights (because they are easiest on my eyes), so i replaced them with red bulbs and all of my other gauges have followed suit.

I can assume that is over-exposure, but what type of bulbs are in that cluster? LED? that looks crazy bright

Gauge cluster gauges are oem white.

I also run a Greddy Informeter touch. You should get the PBM EVDM unit, it is tiny.
