Hey guys, been lurking a lot lately and looking for some more info on another possible build.

A lot of people build different platforms and different styles for different outcomes and have different connections for cost. What were your goals and which side of your budget did you fall on?

What were you going for and how did you budget and plan for it? How long did it take? Dependable daily? Trailer queen? track slut? should-be-a-track-car-but-daily-it-anyways?

With that being said, I'm looking at about $15,000 right now with few signs of slowing down and $400 over budget. Car is going to be the last option listed above and I'd like to build a track slut.

So post up what you got!

Hmm..I know I've spent a ton in the 9 years I've had the car. I think I added it up to around 12k when I tallied it up after my engine rebuild/repaint. I've never specified a max budget, I just do shopping around to find the best possible price while splurging on quality parts.

My next project is going to be to do a full frame up, and I didn't make a set budget to stay within. The idea will be to bring the car back to a day 1 appearance and update/upgrade the suspension for road course weekends and auto-x. I have a daily, so the S13 is going to be redone into a full weekend fun car. I tallied up just my suspension costs alone, and I was hitting $8k in parts and labor. A new turbo and fuel management should run me about $2k, and body and miscellaneous parts will make me cry once I start tallying that up since I plan on sandblasting the body and having it painted back up with House of Kolor paint and sourcing out OEM factory aero from Japan.

The rest of the drivetrain is already sorted, but I'll be upgrading the clutch to handle around 400 rwhp, an aluminum one piece DS, S15 HLSD, and probably a cryo-treatment/rebuild of the transmission.

The motor is mostly sorted, but I do want to get some Brian Crower cams and Tomei solid pivots to replace my worn HLAs.

All in all, I'd say it's gonna run me upwards of $22k to get it all done.

My budget has always been "however much it takes to finish the car, or until I get tired of spending money on it, whichever happens first". "Going over budget" means "spending more money than was necessary to get the job done right". So far in the 4 years I've had the car, I'm around $10-11K in, including buying the car. I should be able to finish for under $20K, but we shall see. You can look at my build thread if you want to get an idea of what I've gotten for that $10K. It's also in the built-like-a-track-car-but-daily-driven category.

The biggest thing that made me go over budget was my decision for a turbo kit. Rather than piece together my own turbo kit, I went ahead and bought the mazworx kit.

Hi-jacker, I'm looking at something slightly similar but not to the degree you're talking about. There's an S14 on my shops property that is pretty well stripped. Most of the suspension is gone, the hubs and brakes are gone, no engine or transmission, mostly missing interior etc etc. I figure it would make a good candidate to make a track only car because at this point, I can just buy upgraded parts and just get it rolling.
