So we have a couple of threads talking about people getting the game, playing the game, reviewing the game.

But we don't have one dealing with, I think, one of the coolest aspects of the game. Random sh1t stories. The ones where you were just so surprised by the awesomeness of the gameworld around you and how it reacts to you and you to it.

Last night, I started up a mission for Brucie (the one where I had to go and get the car from the alleyway in Dukes for him). I failed my first attempt as I simply couldn't get away from 6 guys shooting at me. On my restart of the mission, my car was gone. So I see a biker stroll on by and I'm thinking 'BAM! Shoot him with me pistol and go get the car'. I whip out my 9mm and auto-target him, the guy gets close enough to a ped before I can fire and my itchy aiming finger let the auto aim slip over to the ped, which was a cop. So now, I have a 1 star wanted level and I'm running as fast as I can to get to a car and steal it before the cop catches me. I find a van, break the glass, but the cop catches me and as he's ready to cuff me, I make a break for it. 2 stars now. I see a cab driving by, and I grab the driver, toss him out, and take his fare on a ride of his life

By now, more cop cars have arrived to the scene, and they're doing a damn good job of blocking me from getting out of the twisty area of the lower docks. So I do what any self respecting, expatriot East European would do. I shoot through the windshield of the car blocking my path. 3 stars. The chase goes on for a few more minutes until they finally damaged my car beyond repair and I bail out. By now, my health is too low and I get ran over by a cop car and killed.

The irony. On my next restart of the mission, I jack an Escalade and see a biker. In my anger, I run over him full force. 'That'll show you to not give me your bike next time!' There was a ped cop that saw me do it and BAM, 1 star again. Sigh.

Three of us were wreaking havok in Star Junction ("Times Square"). My carefully constructed barricade/cover made from a bus and a few cars lasted quite a while but finally failed. We'd all given up pedestrian combat and gotten in cars. I'm in another bus, making sweeps back and forth to keep the law enforcement vehicle clutter more manageable. As I approach one end (where the narrow-angle intersection splits) I see another player in a car running into a barricade. Then I hear him say "Help! This taxi's attacking me!(?)" I'm thinking "Possessed taxi drivers?" So I attempt to reposition my unwieldy behemoth for a fresh battering run when the other player gets out of his car. Shortly after, the driver of the taxi gets out as well. It's a COP. We kill the cop, and go back to trying to keep our wanted levels elevated (having been in armored cars for the past while I'm doing well at 5 stars).

Then, later, as the action again shifts back to that same end of the square, I see the same Taxi driving around, once again occupied by a cop.

Then much later on, after Star Junction has recovered and we've all died out of our hard-earned wanted levels several times and moved on to new areas, one of the other players calls out that he's found 3 bikes, so we should all come grab one. I head his way (knowing he's wanted so we're in a hurry). Just as I get there, I see him go riding off, tired of waiting to be killed. I spot the bike down the street and dash off after it. JUST as I get there, another guy (NPC) approaches the bike and gets on! The bike begins to speed off past me in the same direction my friend just went. I pull out my pistol, free-aim, and pop the guy in the head. Then my minimap lights up. It was another cop.

This one little detail, the fact that cops can and do borrow unattended (or perhaps even attended) cars in order to chase you down is extremely cool. Imagine having your carefully executed loss of a wanted level botched by the cop you didn't notice because he wasn't advertising with sirens and lights.

haha ya that was classic, friggin, we are just unleashing out on eachother, my favorite was running over everyone, then we got wanted stars left in right, when me, you, and LEEHURRYUp kid got in that cop car.....truely priceless, swerving around, firing on every pig we saw. and when I finally found the rocket launcher, I blew up like 5 cars, then you come flying in on a sabre or something, and I tried to shoot a rocket at you, and you flew over me as I tried to shoot you, and I ended up blowing myself to pieces, I was laughing pretty hard. After this, I found out is like 1 in the morning, so ya this game is the best, I have more stories, but I gotta go for now

So...I'm playing around on the big parking garage on southwestern Algonquin (if you look at the map, it's the topmost of the rectangular protrusions jutting westward into the West River...it has a few barges floating in the water to the south of it). There are a few cars and (oddly) several people hanging out.

I'm just driving around hitting things, and making runs back and forth trying to launch cars (and sometimes people in the process) off the top floor by hitting them. (If you knock cars over the side onto the ground [not water] they'll usually explode upon landing.) By the entrance there are two identical gray cars (don't recall the name, but they're the '80s GM A/G-body [GNX] with glass T-tops). I drive to the other end, whip the back around, leave a patch, and head back toward one of the Buicks. I get offset by the sidewalk (launches my car) and end up shoving one right next to the other. So I head back and take another run.

HOLY CRAP.

When I hit the cars, the game goes crazy. The cars hit and spaz out. My car launches, the first GN flips upside down on the spot and then goes beneath the second GN before proceeding to FLING through the floor. The second car launches and lands near the edge of the area on it's roof.

After it all happened, I drove down to the next level to find the other GN (that had gone through the floor) sitting as-new, completely unharmed, directly beneath where it had been above.

I also discovered that the water west of the parking structure is considered Alderney. And since I haven't unlocked Alderney yet, it means going there equals a 6 star wanted rating. How did I discover this? Well I was on a "bombing run" to launch a car off that end. It worked. I launched a car. Just not the one I was intending to launch. I hit the target car, which spun sideways and out of my way. Then I hit the wall with my car. It bounced up and flipped over the edge. I landed in the water, got out of the car, and suddenly my wanted icon lit up completely.I swam to shore under the docks and ran up some stairs, nearly dying from bullet wounds on the way. I stole a truck from the ground floor of the parking garage and raced out. I was headed to a pay-n-spray but didn't make it. I rounded a corner and misjudged the turn. As I was correcting my mistake, no less than 8 squad cars collided with my truck more or less simultaneously. Amidst the crashing was gunfire, and someone got off a lucky shot early on. I was down to almost no health and died.

Also, have you all found the half-pipe in southeastern Algonquin, yet? We discovered it in my first online session. LOTS of fun with bikes, once you get the balance/dynamics down. Sanchez, Faggio, and Freeways are the best in my experience. Cars are a lot of fun in there, too, but the big pillars keep them from being as "free" in there as bikes are. It's directly underneath the Broker Bridge in Algonquin, just down the street from the fire station. Look for red brick with arched openings. The curving, slightly S-shaped "Bridge Lanes" basically converge on it. The entrances aren't visible from the street but if you go down the alley you'll see them. There's a health pack conveniently located right nearby in free roam.

In GTA3, if you go to the little restaraunt around the turn, thats kinda sittin there all by itself, with the big sign in front, just down the street from the first save house. Anyways , if you do a weapons cheat and sit in top of the that building, you can build stars really fast. Its kinda hard for cops to hit you and the fact that its underneath a railroad tracks, means that helicoptors have trouble hitting you. I like to get all 6 stars and steal a tank and see how long I last.

I might be an idiot for not figuring this out already, but in IV (maybr others) if you hold a burnout long enough, your tires will pop! Even on motorcycles too.

I just got an 360 and GTA IV, and Free Mode on Live is hilarious.

Here are my favorite moments so far:

Single Player:-Parked a Securicar in the street blocking the road outside some joint. Go in, beat the high score in CUBED. Go back outside, and there are hundreds of pedestrians and dozens of cars in the biggest traffic jam I've ever seen. No way to leave the area without running over about 100 pedestrians.

Free Mode:-Accidentally exiting the attack helicopter when I was at maximum altitude, landing in middle of the river, surviving, and having to swim for a few minutes to find a dock.-2 of us in Lambos, another in an STI, long chase around the city. One Lambo pulls in to the Pay n Spray, STI guy rams the first guy in the Pay n Spray, then I ram them both. Garage door closes, all cars are mint again. Then about 5 minutes of each of us backing in and out of the Pay N Spray and ramming each other, cars continuously changing colors, until I finally back waaaaayyy up and ram them both at full speed. My car flips and gets stuck Austin Powers style-sideways, blocking anyone from exiting. I get out of my car and put everything in the Pay N Spray out of its misery. A 4th guy pulls up and gets out his car to see what is going on, I steal his car and drive off.-Running in circles around people who have rocket launchers so they can't fire without killing themselves.-Unarmed and being chased by two guys in a car with Uzis. Both of us jump our cars down to the pedestrian walkway by the river, I ream on the brakes Top Gun style, and they go flying by. I floor it and ram their car into the river, do an E-brake turn and run them over as they are climbing out of the water. They were cracking up over voice chat. Good sports.-Me on foot with a pistol vs. 3 guys in an attack helicopter. Took forever, but I managed to win by hiding in areas that forced them to hover in front of me.
