Ine of my best kills was when a raider came up to me with a lead pipe so I crouch to get a better shot. I targeted his head and pressed A (I have the bloody mess perk or whatever) I blew his head off along with all his other limbs and his torso did a frontflip over me with blood spewing from 5 points on his body. Beautiful. There were people bits to the right of me and a limb-less torso to the left.

The other was today after I just built the railway gun. I always test out my new guns in craterside supply in megaton. After i killed the guard that lady went running up the stairs so i was waiting for her as she came down. I went into VATS and shot her head. the second shot decapitated her and pinned her head to the couch to the right of the stairs. (pics later)

when i was starting out, all i had on me was a lead pipe, and i was being attacked by one close-up mole rat, and one running towards me.i bashed the close mole rats head in (during VATS) and then without turning around i took the lead pipe and drove it the mole rats head, which was jumping at me at the time.

yours sounds awesome!

The body

The guard who was owned moments later. (he didnt even have a chance to pull his weapon.)

The thing I dont get is that you would think a railway spike to the face would own just about anything. It takes like 3 shots at point blank range to kill the guard. Railway gun should have been more powerful.

I was massacring the slavers at Paradise Falls. I came around a corner to the central courtyard just outside the slave pens where several slavers were waiting. I bungled the stealth approach and they all noticed me together. So I got out my 5.56mm assult rifle and started pecking away at their health. They were nicely clustered together, so I did a decent amount of damage in the short time before they closed in on me. Then I pulled out my trusty Laser Rifle for some nice Bloody Mess enhanced decapitations. As soon as the gun was fully raised, I mashed V. Vats came up at JUST the right moment. A guy in just about the center of the group had JUST tossed a grenade, and it was only a few inches from his hand, hovering just above the front of the group. VATS autotargeted the grenade over the other targets. My chance to hit was good, but to be safe I rounded off all my AP on the 'nade.

It was beautiful. The first shot nailed the grenade and all the slavers went flying in different directions (a couple of them reduced to chunks) as it exploded.

Thats the great thing about FO3... Its just pure randomness all the time. Aside from freezing and some glitches Bethesda really did a great job on this game. I wish I could see a video of that grenade thing.

i've only had my copy freeze on me once, made me want to cry, lol. shooting grenades is freaking awesome, the day i discovered it was possible was a very good day indeed. i think my favorite kill so far had to be sticking 30 mines in the pocket of the guy that sits outside of megaton begging for water good times

I wish I could have gotten video of it.I don't think my PC is up to running video capture software and Fallout 3 at the same time, though.

OH, also, while we're discussing amusing Fallout moments:Brahmin tipping.Lower your gun (hold reload).Crouch.Approach Brahmin (doesn't matter which side, can even be done from the front or back).Hold "Use" (no prompt will appear as normal for the use key, but it still works).Watch and laugh.

Minutes after i read your first post i went to go play fallout and as I was exiting the elementary school i got attacked by 3 raiders...or mercs...I forget...anyways, one of them started to throw a grenade (it was still in his hand). I went into VATS and blew up the grenade. It was great because I didnt go out looking for someone with a grenade either.

I have to try that brahmin tipping thing... sounds fun. Did you figure it out yourself or did you read it somewhere?

wow didn't know you could target grenades, that's awesome!

my greatest moment was also during the culling of Paradise Falls' inhabitants. I planted over 60 mines in strategic places around the camp so that nobody would step on them, got back towards the slave pens with a fat man and launched a nuke at the group of guards in front of jones' pad. I annihilated the entire population in 5 seconds, minus a couple lucky ones and shop owners. Then me and the kids waltzed out of the place.

Another memorable experience happened when I was mucking about the downtown area between metro entrances. I came upon a sucken + intersection surrounded by mutants. As I approached I heard the telltale sound of Vertabirds in the air and started to slowly crap my pants as I was now in the middle of the intersection, knee deep in Super Mutants, and about to be waylaid by Outcasts.

As the birds landed, MORE mutants spawned a few hundred yards down the street (2 masters, 5-6 brutes and a smattering of normals) and started to engage the outcasts (about 6, 2 with tesla/plasma rifles). It seems they had completely ignored me! As they fought back and forth, nearby cars exploding mushroom clouds, I just stood there watching. As the mutants were being slaughtered (they were surrounded by exploding cars) I decided to change the tide of battle and went at the outcasts with my Burnmaster, killing them all, leaving a couple super mutants wandering around, and me to live another day.

Another one is of course using an 8-shot MIRV attack during the final battle at the memorial. Lag-O-Rific.

Long post haha.

My favorite is when I found 4 raiders fighting over a fridge of purified water somewhere in the wastes. They didnt seem to notice me as I eavesdropped, so I sat and listened for a minute. I soon grew tired of waiting, so I targeted the one closest to the middle of the group with VATS and lobbed a grenade. The explosion sent everyone in different directions, limbs everywhere, and a torso flew directly over my head. Then I took the water. It was pretty funny.

Blah! I'm really not feeling this game. Maybe it's cause I'm still in the beginning but I just feel so weak and useless in an incredibly hostile world. And a sniper shot directly to your face shouldn't only do 1/4 health damage.

You'll get much more powerful. You just need to level a few times. If you're having trouble surviving, remember that you can always try a different area. It's pretty big world. Also, the "levelled lists" (basically, a monster spawning function that means the entire world levels with your character) are "staged" (so instead of exactly matching you, monsters level in jumps relative to you according to the set levels from their list) so it could mean that at one level you'll be having a hard time, but in 2 or 3 levels you'll be feeling very powerful. Not all monsters have the same levelled list setup so if you're having trouble in one area, try heading somewhere else to take advantage of slightly different level monsters.

What's your character build like? I really recommend picking a pretty close specialization and focusing on it and not trying to be a jack of all trades. I did small guns, science, explosives, repair, and energy weapons and ignored most everything else. I focused all my perks on those as well. After a few levels as long as I had a small gun or energy weapon I was powerful.

When you get the chance, absolutely take the perks that allow you to magically find money and ammo more often. They are without a doubt the most useful non-stats perks in the game.

Just remember that you can always back away, re-acquire the initiative, and come back for more. It can really help to have an emergency stealth boy on hand to whip out and just take a breath and figure out how to do things differently. The crazy kill scenario I posted above happened after several failed attempts at rushing that square. Sometimes even just running in to get a good look at where everyone is, what they're armed with, and where the cover is can make all the difference in how you approach the fight. It's easy to get overwhelmed if you try to rush into things. Take your time and use the world to your advantage. The game has some fantastic AI cover mechanics that means the enemies will be doing exactly that, so you'll need to match them at it if you want to win.

I've been mostly boosting my stealth and lock picking stats (although it seems EVERY lock is beyond my expertise). I really don't know what I'm doing, and I'm not looking to min/max and devote a crapload of time to the game since I am only renting it and have no real desire to purchase it. I'll admit it looks like an amazing game, just not amazing enough to draw in someone who doesn't care so much for RPGs like me.

Stealth is a good way to go. But dealing damage is far more important than lockpicking. If you're going stealth, I'd recommend one of the sniper type perks (you can get MASSIVE damage bonuses when attacking undetected from stealth with the right build). There's also a perk that lets you gain more skill points every level, which will help you round off your lockpicking to a usable point more quickly.

If you can't open a lock now, come back for it later. If you're focusing on lockpicking as one of your skills, you should be able to have it up to 75 around level 10. I would say at least play to level 10. If the world exploration isn't working out, go do the main story quests. You have backup on most of them, and you'll get some nice gear rewards from them. It's pretty obvious which one is the "last" mission, so just stop before that one and go back to the side stuff until you've had your fill (the game ENDS completely after the last mission, no more chances to finish side quests).

Don't worry about min/maxing. This game doesn't fall victim to the weird levelling system to the same extent that Oblivion does. Just focus on the skills that matter. I never bothered min/maxing and by level 10 or so I had a nicely powerful character.

I have a pretty powerful toon at level 8 right now.

My favorite kill so far has to be in the Metro between Farragut and Chevy Chase. There's a locked room with 4 ghouls in it, I managed to snipe a ghoul, which critted and exploded him, and the other three started running around trying to find a way to get to me, but they were trapped. I pulled out my trusty combat shotty, picked the lock, and let them run at me. 3 shotgun shells later and I had a mess of gibs in front of me. I actually had trouble discerning which corpse was which so I could loot them.
