looks crazy to us, but i guess it's not crazy to the shiite muslims. anybody else see a potential for infection and disease? if one of those guys had aids or something like that a whole bunch of them would get infected with how much blood there is.

HIV was one of the first potential problems I thought of. I understand that it's a part of the shiite muslim culture and people (like myself) wouldn't understand and obviously I don't, but that's crazy. The picture of that kids mom taking a razor to his head is just plain wacky! I'm not one to judge but that seems uncivilized. What's next sacrificing virgins and goats?

whoa. it's insane how far any religion goes...the picture of the young boy about to be cut by a razor is especially poignant.and yes. i do note that there is potential for serious infections/disease spreading....but the Shiite order of Islam is a very extreme and ancient in its doctrine and practices--apparently.

Just because a culture practices something does not mean its right. there are tribes that raid other opposing tribes and kill women and children and make a meal out of them, to "consume thier enemies spirits". but hey its thier religion who are we to say its wrong? ( i dont really feel like digging out the national geographic i saw it in for the exact name right now)

death to Israel,' in a mass rally called by Lebanon's Hizbollah guerrilla group. REUTERS/Jamal Saidi "

Ok people who hate america cutting their heads open, some idiots could kill themselves this way. Again some mentioned HIV. Now these people will be fighting against us if we get into a war here. Hmm that can be contradictory also because their blood could get on our soldiers.

I don't think that'll be too much of a problem unless they manage to get around our guns, run at us with their HIV-infected swords and stab us a few times. At that point HIV would be the least of our problems..;)

i agree...but what is right or wrong anyway? to those tribes that you mentioned; what they are doing, to them, is the right thing to do.

in my view it's all about the lack of knowledge/education, which, without it religion/cultural beliefs/convictions can go on without question or without challenge.

i don't think that made any sense. argh!(this very inarticulate moment brought to you by sky having a massive headache):D

[/quote] Well that depends if you think there are universal right or wrongs. There are very complex theories on each side, and i find myself on the side of absolutes. (a true defined right and wrong) But i can understand your viewpoint...
