Marriage with a foreign partner aged under 24 is not recognised, and a points system has now been established for immigrants wishing to obtain a residence permit. Immigrants must provide evidence to show that they have "actively participated in Danish society" for at least one year. And Danes with foreign spouses are obliged to prove that as a couple they have a combined attachment to Denmark which is greater than their "combined attachment to any other country."

It was on this basis that tax inspector Bolette Kornum was denied permission to move back to Copenhagen with her Egyptian husband: the immigration service ruled that they had a greater attachment to Egypt. Bolette speaks Arabic, her husband had no family in Denmark, and they had lived together for several years in his native country. Go and live in Egypt was the official response.

Thought this was an interesting article. The Danes dont mess around and they will boot your a** out of the country if you dont belong or make trouble.

My friend just flew to Denmark with her boyfriend (Danish) and when he was here we had some interesting conversation about the US's Immigration Issues. Not just with this issue but with other's Denmark, for a socialist society has a lot of good ideas on certain things.

A lot of time we hear that the solution to a problem involves taking things on a case-by-case basis. Here, the dangers involved in that become a little bit more apparent. What happens if the guy judging your case has a particular grudge against you for reasons unrelated to your case's review?

I worry about the ease of abuse in a system like those illustrated by that quote.

The quote was merly to show how tough Scandinavian immigration law is compared to US law. Sweden and Denmark have some of the toughest immigration laws in Europe, with France and Germany being very lax. They literally dont mess around. While the Netherlands approach (which I think is ingenious) is to give immigrants a test. They show them pictures of topless women on a beach and men holding hands in public (among other things). Immigrants are told, if this offends you, this may not be the country for you. It should be pointed out that central Europe is overrun by Turks and Middle Easterners that cause problem. Denmark has very little issues with immigrants.

Sorry for the caps...These are from another website.

1. If you migrate to this county, you must speak the native language

2. You have to be a professional or an investor. No unskilled workers allowed.

3. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no special ballots for elections, all government business will be conducted in our language.

4. Foreigners will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they are here.

5. Foreigners will NEVER be able to hold political office.

6. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs.

7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

8. If foreigners do come and want to buy land that will be okay, BUT options will be restricted. You are not allowed waterfront property. That is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

9. Foreigners may not protest; no demonstrations, no waving a foreign flag, no political organizing, no badmouthing our president or his policies, if you do you will be sent home.

10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down and sent straight to jail.

The above laws belong to the immigration laws of Mexico...

IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR.

IF YOU CROSS THE VENEZUELAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE BRANDED A SPY AND YOUR FATE WILL BE SEALED.

IF YOU CROSS THE CUBAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE THROWN INTO POLITICAL PRISON TO ROT.

BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PRINTED IN YOUR LANGUAGE
THE RIGHT TO CARRY YOUR COUNTRY'S FLAG WHILE YOU PROTEST THAT YOU DON'T GET ENOUGH RESPECT

You forgot one about Mexico.
Naturalized citizens can join the military but can not be commissioned officers.

I never understood the uproar about credit cards to noncitizens. As if credit cards couldn't operate in other countries.

Me neither.

I actually like Australia's immigration laws. Check 'em out. Might do us some good, if we could get them past the limp-wristed appeasers on the extreme left.
