I figure you SOHC guys would get some love from me. I enjoy doing SOHC covers as the masking really makes them pop. Im gonna try a seperate cover but im gonna remove the top surface so that its completly flat and throw on a logo with a sticker.

Anyways this SOHC cover was just something I cooked up. It has 4 layers of powder so its extremly durable.

1st Layer is a Base Coat of Chrome.2nd Layer is a Candy Blue3rd Layer is another coat of Candy Blue. (I added a 2nd coat to darken the color a bit)4th Layer is a Matte Clear, this gives it that flat lookwhile still retaining some of that metallic shiny look.

Looks pretty hawt to me! I'm not much of a powder coater myself. I just slap one heavy coat on there, and go with it. I do it for durability mostly. But you make it heavy duty, AND look good!So what are some tips to doing different layers? Do you put each coat on, and bake it? or do you do them all at once, and then bake it?

Thanks!

When you multiple coats you have to let each coat cure before adding the other coats.

What I di was let the Chrome full cure and let it cool down to room temp. With the blue the first layer I let it cure for half the time required pretty much a few minutes after the cover goes from powder to liquid like state (Thats called flowout). Same process with the 2nd coat of blue. The only time I dont let it cool down is when Im going to throw a clear coat. Reason for it is because I dont need to mask anything when clearing.

Also it helps to have a powerful gun that has high voltage makes adding multiple coats easier.

:/ I have too many powder coated parts in my living room.

I was supposed to send out a bunch of parts and this stupid Tropical Storm Fay crap kinda backed up all my work.
