....challenges in a game. Like in Perfect Dark - there were 50 "challenges" that you could complete on top of the storyline, where you had to get kills in a certian amount of time, or use a certian gun to do something, or work with teammates to complete an objective....I really wish newer games like COD would come out with something like this - the Nazi Zombie from COD5 is kinda good, but I would like something I can do on my own - Kinda like the Mile High Club from COD4...challanges were a nice way to play single player, but do something outside of the storyline...I dunno, I miss them. Portal includes challenge modes for several test chambers once you've completed the main game.God of War: Chains of Olympus has a whole bunch of challenges.Lots of modern games introduce interesting challenges via achievements.

That kind of thing has never appealed to me. Why would I want to defeat x enemies in y seconds if it is completely independent of the game itself? To say I can do it? For gamerscore? I don't care about either of those things. Portal tasks you to complete various chambers using the least amount of steps or portals or time...but why? Sure I can do it, but there's no point. I feel the same about killing x baddies in y seconds or without using z ability.

Challenges are just a cheap way for developers to get more life out of their product without investing much additional effort. I'd rather see them add more to the game than gluing on pointless challenges.
