Hey y'all,

Just though I would stop by to share a lol from my dealer.

We have all had those moments where we think the service consultant has no clue how a car is supposed to work, my dealer is no exception, we have our moments but this one really took the cake.

Yesterday started off like any other typical Tuesday. One of the cars on my schedule was a V35 coupe, 5AT with ~40k nothing too special with the car, it needed tires and some brake shims but other than that it was ok. My SA comes to me about an hour after the car is dropped off asking about what type of transmission is in one of our G37x loaners because the customer said his car has a blown transmission. I was personally pretty intriguing by this as I have seen some odd shift schedules from these cars but no control failures...especially without a check engine light. This guy refused to drive the car and made us tow it back, I checked it once it came off the truck and everything was perfect.

Come to fund out the guy is a "mechanic" and swears the linkage is broken on our car???
Well there is an electronic switch but no mechanical linkage per sa, and even if there were the liklihood that a shift failure would originate there would be slim to none.

Key points to remember,
-The 7 speed shifts a little funny compared to the 5 speed
-Rev matching is not indicative of a slipping trans
-Be careful which mechanics you trust your car to some people think these cars can perform miracles.

Caveat Emptor

Take it easy y'all

Steve

Working at a dealership is a real eye-opener. It is amazing how little most people know about a vehicle. They should teach the basics of a vehicle in high school.

When I worked at a Chevy dealership (eons ago) I had a man call me up and BLAST me because he was told that his new truck was a 350 4bbl and he only had a 2bbl. I told him 3 or 4 times to bring it in and let us look at it, but he was more content chewing my a**. I knew it was a 4bbl because Chevy wasn't even putting a 350 2bbl in their trucks that year. Well...I finally talked him into bringing the truck up there. He was such a moron that he didn't know that the back two bbls stayed closed until you punched it. One of the salesmen went out there and pulled back on the throttle thingy so the back flap thing would open up and he could see all 4 bbls. Oh he just laughed and cut up. The A-hole never did come in and appolgize to me. Amazing!

Goes for some of the people working at dealerships though too.

Agreed! When I went to look at an '00 Camaro SS, the salesman and I were standing there looking at the engine and he said "That's a ZR-1 motor in there" I didn't want to make him feel like the moron he was so I just let it slide. I wanted to say "If you can promise me in writing that that is a ZR-1 engine, I'll take it right now"
