I just called Nissan and asked the service dept. :

Me : "I have a 1995 Nissan 240sx SE and I want to have a tune up done because I don't have the time to do it right now, how much is it?"

Guy : "Uh.... is it a 4 cyl. or a 6 cyl.?" Really he asked this.

Me : "It's a 4 cyl. The code for the engine is KA24DE."

Guy: " $ 115.00."

Me : "What does that include?"

Guy :"Well it incluedes Spark Plugs and we adjust the idle and that's about it."

Me : "So, you don't adjust the timing?"

Guy : "No."

Me : "How do you charge to adjust the timing?"

Guy : "Does it have a chain or a belt?"

Me : "Chain"

Guy : "We don't usually have request to do that. So I don't know."

Me : "Well I want to. So... how much?"

Guy : "Well, now that I think about it, we can't."

Me : "O.K. Thanks."

:./ $ 115.00 for spark plugs and to adjust the timing. Two things I don't need. I thought people in the Service dept. should know these things. Apparantly I was wrong.

Damn, that sucks. I went to the dealer to get an endcap for one of my sideskirts and the stupid a** lady at the service desk kept saying she couldn't find anything for a "250ZX." It took me 30 minutes to explain to her what I wanted. And that plastic piece which is no bigger than a distibuter cap costed $70. And on top of that, they forgot to call me when they got it in and I had also forgotten about in because I was away at school. I called like three weeks later and they had to re-order it. Based on my experience with Nissan dealers, I'll be DAMNED if I'm gonna go through a dealer to order a new clutch.

the people at the nissan dealers have no brains at all. when i had my honda, the honda people seemed really helpful and actually knew what you were talking about and what they were talking about...i guess hondas are more popular so more people know stuff *shrug*i dont think ill buy a new nissan from a nissan dealer unless i find one used at another dealer.

everything needed to do a tune-up you can do yourself with just general knowledge of your car and/or a Haynes Manual.

Is your timing off? I don’t understand why people want to advance timing just to get an extra HP it's really is not worth it. Advancing the timing is only going to make the engine more prone to detonation dew to the fuel you buy or how hot it is outside wile you’re driving. Set the timing to factory spec's and if that doesn’t make enough HP bolt on a turbo.

Alot of dealers are like that don't go into a chevy dealer and ask something your actually lucky to get someone to act like they're paying attention to you.

i think people that work in dealerships have no clue what they are doin. if your not a mechanic, your chances are slim to gettin someone who knows there stuff inside out. also remember that if they havent been workin for that company for more than a year to five years, they still might b rookies when it comes to knowledge about such special cars (aka 240sx) nonetheless, try a mechanic if anything or take a day off from work to get ur car in shape. im sure u will save alot of money goin that route.

I work at a dealership and can verify half of the guys there know **** about the cars. The mechanics are helpful though, but other than that, watch out. I work at a mopar dealership. :rolleyez

:rolleyes this is the way that a tune up is done at any dealership-since the timing is adjusted by the pcm it makes absolutly no sense to adjust it unless it has been tampered with-as for only doing spark plugs there is such a price varience on plug wires that you can't set a menu price to replaced them on all vehicles-some people will get ripped off while others will make out with a good deal-it just isn't fair to all-wires are a replace as needed item-depending on driving habits and conditions some may not wear as fast as others-the charges are fair as far as dealerships go-cover the cost of parts and to pay for my tools and knowlege (labor)

just remember-if you don't want to do the work yourself you will have to pay to have someone else do it

It's important to check base timing on older engines because timing chains can stretch and cause timing to be off because of high mileage. People who drive cars, male or female should know and understand their cars as much as possible and always, always get a second opinion.

150,000 miles plus, my speed sensor is out so I have more mileage I have put on the car, and I don't even know if the engine in the car is the original one. :(

I have other problems too so I was really looking for someone to tell me everything wrong with my car so I can fix it myself. For example, when in park my tach is sitting just below 1,000 (looks like 900 or so) and in drive it sits at the same. God forbid I put on the air conditioner, it jumps to 1,400 or so. I checked the spark plugs and they are fine. Might be the plugs but I didn't want to pay $ 85.00 for them to tell me my plugs are bad.
