Ok guys im new to the imports. Ive been building small block chevy's for along time now. But last night I found two 300zx's, both are non turbos one is a 1983 or 1984 automatic and is missing a rear quarter window and in ok shape, the other is a 1986 manual and is in way good shape and has brand new tires too. Neither run. I looked at the 1986 it turns over and has spark but its not getting any fuel. I bought both cars for $500.00. Do you guys think its a good deal, and if anyone has any good starting points for me to find out why the 86 aint getting any fuel feel free to let me know. Oh and the 86 only has 100,000 miles on it. Thanks guys,Jr

the 84 isn't an aniversary edition, all aniversary editions were turbo, had plastic fender flares leather seats etc, and that 86 is actually an 85 ( I suppose it could also be an 84 but I'm guessing you guessed the model year looking at the production date stamped in the door), 86 had different front fenders and all 86's had a spoiler with the 3rd tail light in the spoiler, that being cleared up hard to go wrong with 2 cars for $500

Ooh, slicktop. You planning to repair them both and have two running Zs? Either way, $500 is a good deal for two cars.

On the 85, when you turn the key you should be able to hear the fuel pump running. If not, check it's wires, if they are good then it is dead. Being a SBC guy, this is where you will begin to understand how Nissan likes to design a car. Frustrating. You will have to drop the tank as they didn't build them with a door to access the pump, as they did with the fuel level sender.

If you are up to it, this might actually be a good time to build a door for that, if you can fabricate that is.

OK cool, ya im a pretty good fabricator (I build my own chassis and roll cages for mine and other peoples race cars. I plan on getting them both running. But if I only get one, then I mod the other one and stuff one of my 327's or something in it. Thanks for the input guys.Jr.

That's an '84. The emblem on the driver fender is one of the normal 50th badges slapped on the fenders of most 1984 models by the dealerships.

The VIN will tell you the actual year. The 10th digit will be "E" for 1984, "F" for 1985, "G" for 1986, etc.

yeah that 86 definitely looks like an 84, the 86's had much smootherlines and wide flares, they're my favorite Z31 year. I think it's also an 84 because it's got the non-smoked rear taillights, and they changed those mid year 84. Look at the Vin's they'll tell all. Good deal on 2x cars for 500 bones. especially the slicktop, since they didn't make a lot of those.

As for no fuel, first (I know I don't have to tell you but...) Check the fuses!!! it's possible the pump got some gunk in it and pulled too much amps and blew the fuse, that is if you don't hear the pump run. Rather than pulling the tank and replacing the in tank pump, you can mount an external electric pump inline and if it's not clogged, you should be fine to go then. If you do hear the pump, then change the filters, and blow out the fuel line. it's gotta be somewhere there.

I've got some 86' Z31 (marroon, 68Kmi) parts if anyone's looking.

All 1984 models and non-turbos had non-smoked tail lights. Only the 85 and 86 turbos had smoked tails. There was no mid year change.

US slicktop production numbers were:1984 - 19,9831985 - 1,6841986 - 2,7921987 - 1,3881988 - 151989 - 4
