I have a 1982 (not an 83, not an 84, and not an 86) Datsun 720. It has 174k miles on it.
Im wanting to either do a frankenmotor or a straight swap. the frankenmotor questions I have are already answered bc of this site so no advice needed on that (l20b head swap, bore over, grind crank clearance, new links for timing chain from mercedes and pistons from a ka motor.) I do need to find a write up on a 1982 KA swap. From everything Ive read, the z24 motor is pretty simple minus some engine mounts (depending on which vehicle 240sc vs pickup due to oil pumps and pan differences). Does this hold true for the z22 as well? Does the z22 motor bolt to the bell housing? Will my manual transmission work with the ka motor?
next question. I know I can lower my truck via torsion bars and rear drop blocks. Problem being, if Im going to do it, I want to go big. I see people posting about drop spindles for their 85 Datsuns but nothing about pre 1983. Air bag system would be in the future, but nothing definite right now. I may just slam and with lowering springs and shocks but I cant find anything on those either.
What suspension parts are easy to swap for my 1982 datsun.
Im trying to limit my trips to the pull a part, sorry for all the questions and yet another post about engine swaps.
Btw, the motor in it now runs, well, it did five years ago before parking it. I have had the valve covers off and it looked phenomenal to be so old, zero sludge or burnt oil. Ive had to change water pump, radiator, and valve cover gaskets. Also had to jump the rheostat for the interior cluster lights bc they wouldnt work.
Again I apologize. Ive been scowering google, ratsun, and this site for a week to no success. Time to go right to the source.
