Hi all,

Well I realized I need back shocks asap. They are leaking and overall in a very bad shape. I have tried looking for them, but I am constantly told it's only a dealer item. I called the dealer they are asking $250 for just one of them.

Do you guys know any alternative, cheaper aftermarket shocks? The way I understand it, only the dealer makes shocks for these cars? True?

I love my Q (It's a 98) it has been reliable to me and I want to treat it right, so help me out!

Dude, you need to search!! But there are only two alteratives, well actually 3 now. first is dealer only part that have gone up in price over the last few years big time. The OEM is made my KYB for Nissan/Infiniti. Second is to order a set of KYB SR Specials...unfortunately these are NOT a regular part you can get from a standard KYB dealer, KYB doesn't produce them for the US Market. There is a company called MemoryFab that imports them from Japan, but they take a few weeks to get. They were selling 4 piece set for around $495 which is a smoking price if they can still do that. I got mine on my 97' from a guy that still lurks around here that goes by handle "Onetongarage". he's in the SF Bay Area and I got mine from him for closer to $750 but I was an early adopter as I did mine about 3-4 years ago. The other thing that has popped up recently is a coil over company Megan that has a fitmet for the your car, search for that thread....you have to do some modifications to make them work but they are a grand for the whole thing. If you have a good mechanic that isn't afraid to mess with suspension these might work for you and be way cheaper then the stealership.

My advise, change out springs and shocks, either call up MemoryFab and order KYB and a set of Espelir springs as a set or get the SR Specials and new stock springs if you don't want your ride 2" lower. I have the Tein springs which worked just fine too.

I had same issue with rear shocks leaking...trust me there are ZERO other alternatives. FYI, if you go the stock route you can call Infiniti of Scotsdale and they will be cheaper mail order then local for sure.
