My 93 J's sunroof finally died... When I got the car the sunroof was sticking. I cleaned the track a little, whatnot... worked fine for 2 years. About 2 weeks ago I was closing it and I heard a loud noise. Like something either snapped or banged against something. The sunroof stopped moving though the motor was still grinding away. I tried going back, it did but it wouldn't go forward more than half way. Then after a few more tries it just wouldn't go anywhere anymore. I ended up stopping somewhere and with both hands pulled the sunroof closed as it was just about to rain. It wasn't easy...

Now the motor still works but the sunroof doesn't go anywhere. I'm thinking the motor is OK but the rest of it isn't... Not to mention water leaks inside, and when going on the freeway over 70 the sunroof starts shaking and leaking air inside. I'm sure I broke something there by pulling the sunroof closed.Do you think I may have snapped the cable and the motor is OK? Can I buy the kit without the motor or is it all or nothing?

Most likely your track is bent or broken which is common at this age. The track isn't that expensive as a part but its labor intensive to fix (a long weekends worth of work!) or very big bucks at a garage/dealer.

Your getting water in your car because the drain tubes, located on either side if the sunroof (facing forward) are clogged. You need to gently blow some forced air into them to unclog.

Sunroof is not easy to fix if it is not the motor. Be prepared to strip the interior. Also, it requires PATIENCE to make the sunroof FLUSH after the repair.

I've read the sunroof DIY about 3-4 times. I am aware of the steps but based on what you guys are saying I'm inclined to get the entire package. Sounds like there's some digging that needs to be done. Thanks for the help

If your going to DIY, get yourself a buddy to help you. Its a frusterating repair to attempt by yourself, I tried.
