Today I went to Fort Wayne, IN, about 30 mins south of where I go to school, to check out a Q45 with a bad engine...

As a background... I knew this Q already from way back in the day, had met up with its previous owner (who contacted me outside of NICO)... his engine seized on him sort of on a random note, when it was in the shop so the shop replaced the engine free of charge. This engine was cleaner than many ive seen... probably nearly as clean as my engine, which likely has never sene more than 4000 miles on synthetic oil.

At any rate, this car had a bad injector... on the number one cylinder... the long story short is, the injector was bad enough that it was spraying enough fuel in there that it hydrolocked and broke the number one cylinder... The oil was filled with gasoline when the shop pulled the plug out (NOTHING but gasoline from what I was told)... Now the engine is completely toast, unless they are really lucky and they can replace just the #1 rod and piston somehow, but they are already shopping for another engine...

Just a friendly reminder that putting off things will only make things worse.. Not saying your engine is going to blow up if you dont replace your airfilter every year, just remember...

Speaking of air filters, I had to buy a new air filter for the car today and it was $23 from the dealer, where its $7 from joe... Im done with dealers, but i desperately needed a new air filter... it was embarassing, and I think the Q was starting to get pissed at me for not replacing it...

Just my little quip for the day...

Good lord, $23. The two dealers here in St Louis were $10.

Read the previous posts and you will know. Discussed extensively. Why do you think he prefers OEM?

I was just a tick away from saying WTF... Even joe lists the price as $9, which is what the dealers charge... Oh well, I have gotten off easy the last few months as Ive done nothing to the car except put in gas.

I dont run K/N.. Letme say, that you cannot have both superior quality filtering (as good as OEM) and also have as much flow..... ONe had to be compromised for another... The stock Q45 air filter is very oversize for its engine size, in fact, the 5.7L in the cadillacs have a smaller air filter than does the Q... Theres no way that having a K/N will unlock more HP, it will just make it sound like it because its louder.....

With that being said, if you really want a "cold air intake" like the JWTpop charger or whatever, just bunjee cord your stock air filter ot the top of the stock box, and you will see how stupid it is... I ran mine like that for a month just to see... Glad im back at the stock airbox (replaced it yesterday at a gas station).
