ok so i was driving down I40 today and upon going uphill the truck started feeling like it was "missing" almost as if a cylinder wasn't firing. It wasn't constant or regular, and after cresting the hill and starting down it it stopped completely and ran normal. Then started up another hill, and it was worse this time around. I made it to the exit ramp and almost to the light at the end of the ramp, and she sputtered to a stop and died. I got out checked the distributor (I just replaced the ignition coil like last week maybe 2 weeks ago). I looked for spark and upon turning the key (with a plug wire unplugged) she started right up! I thought it was strange but hey I was gonna take it lol. I got back in and started accelerating only to sputter to a stop. I waited a moment tried again and she started again. This time in neutral, she idled, sat there idling for 5 minutes. back to drive and starts rolling. I give her some gas and she dies. Now I'm really confused. If the fuel pump was bad, she shouldn't start at all, right? Now she has a couple new parts from our last repair the Ignition coil and the Fuel filter. Its also worthwhile to note that the air intake hose is in fact cracked and broken (the very last section of it thats about a 35? degree bend into the throttle body is broken all to hell and duct taped as a temporary fix until I find a replacement.)

from what i see across the 'net people who experience these symptoms either have a bad fuel pump or a clogged catalytic converter. any help?!

Probably not it, but check to be sure the set screw didn't come loose on the rotor under the distributor cap. A buddy had that happen on his '02 Frontier with results that sound a lot like what you're describing, and since you were working on that recently...

You should disconnect the rear driveshaft then.
