I can't find on the forum where the simple test is for the MAF. You unplug it while it's running and if it cuts off then the engine is using the MAF? If you unplug it and it keeps running then it's using default settings and your MAF is bad?

I can unplug my MAF and it keeps running but when I plug it back in while the engine is running it cuts off. Does that mean my MAF is bad?

Could someone answer this yet again? Perhaps this could be "stuck" at the top of the forum and rewritten coherently? Thanks for the time and effort reading this.

Plenty of posts.

One changes out the MAF with a known good one after verifying the connector is not the problem.

The other parameters mentioned are the voltages vs. rpm.

See EF & EC 11 and EF & EC 85 in the FSM if your are getting code 12.

The main problem people have is understanding the exponential graph of the voltage vs air flow.

At idle 0.2 volts [1.2 vs 1.4] is significant at 6,000 rpm WOT [4.2 vs 4.4] is less so.

Hard to mentally get around that x tps voltage and y rpm generates a rough estimate of LOAD and MAF is the fine tuner.

Because you COULD be atop a 12,000 foot mountain [in Summer] or in Death Valley [in winter] the air density could be 30-40% different with the exact same tps and rpm...........thus the MAF voltage would vary.

Just like O2 sensors are the fine tuner at steady rpm cruise..........

At your mileage 10 to 1 its the plug connector!

WE do replace 10 times more MAF connectors than MAF themselves.Whereas shade tree shops try to replace more expensive MAF than inexpensive connectors.

Still use my 15 year old 300k MAF!
