if you have the pumpkin(ham) right in front of you, and you cant, no matter what you do, turn the out-put shafts in opposite dirrections. so in other words both axles have to turn and turn in the same dirrection no matter what you do. could that be a vlsd? or is that like a 1.5 or 2-way diff?

if i try to turn the output shaft the input shaft has to turn, there is no way to turn it otherwise. so if you move one shaft they all move or they dont move if you try to hold another shaft wghile trying to turn another

They all move if you turn one because they are all connected. Its time for you to pull of the rear cover and see what you have on the inside. If you can see through the center of your diff that means that it is open or in anoter words NOT a limit slip.

it sound like some kind of LSD.For open differential, if you turn one of the output shaft, the other will turn opposite dirrection. Pinion remain unmove.

What if you turn pinion both way, does both output shaft turn same dir. too ?

From your description, it sound like a vlsd.

If it's a vlsd, you can try to move the output shafts in opposite directions, and they'll move very slowly. It may be the same with clutch types, but I haven't had any experience with those. If you really want to know, take a look at the internals.

theres nothing limited about your diff. if its all or nothing like you say, then you have two possibilities. 1 not turning hard enough2 spool

well i put it in today and had my boss look at it....and the survey says its a clutch type. but i have no clue what brand or if it is a 1.5 or 2way, but it definitely is not a vlsd. thanks for youre help guys. i was trying to upload a picture to the board but i suffer from that disease known as dial-up.

als the s13 180sx diff is a direct bolt on for our cars. you just have to use the second set of holes on the xmember where you bolt on the dif(spot w/ 4 nuts)
