Finally installed my $150 Injen Intake!! Man it sound SOOO nice when i reved it for the first time!! Oh yea i have a question, does the intake heatshield suppose to be touching the battery case? i had to like force the intake down so it would fit. The manual told me to put the intake tube in first without the filter but that didnt work. I assembled the intake tube with the heatshield and filter together before i put it in. Anyone else did it this way?

Push the filter and head shield assembly as far down the intake as you can, otherwise the heat shield will rub against the battery harness and compartment. I have a A/C 2.5 and this worked perfectly for me. If you do a search you will see LOT's of dialogue on this exact problem.

Good luck!

i just installed mine tonight although i have the 3.5se it's still a very f'ing tight fit. There's no way possible to follow the direction and install the filter onto the intake as the last part of the assembly. if someone says they have done it they're full of the d!ck or are just giving pointers and have never installed on in a A/C. Whole process took me about 30minutes cause i had to take everything apart and take the directions to the fireplace because they're really not any help. could have been done in about 15 if it didn't have to take everything off and try again. The sound of the motor is so much sweeter although you don't notice anything except the throttle response until you're doing about 4000rpms. I even took the liberty to call some fella at enjin to tell them that they need to change their direction manual for people who order that sku specifically for the a/coupes because there's no way possible to follow there directions and have be successful with your installation.anyway, here are some pics

After putting on my Fujita and looking at the engine bay, I have some kind of an idea for how a CAI can fit on this car. If you look closely at the stock engine bay the air comes in from the grille, goes through that tube which follows right inbetween the engine and the fusebox, then through the airbox then finally through the tubing to the cylinders.

In your pictures I noticed you didn't remove the tube that attaches to the grille. After I put on my fujita WAI the other day I left that part on as well but I thought about it and then today I took it off. Let me tell you there's a noticable difference with that thing off. Sounds raspier I can feel more torque at low RPM's. Overall the engine winds up 1st and 2nd gear a bit faster. Lastly throttle response is improved.

No I'm not talking out of my *** I can feel, smell, hear very subtle differences about my car. Throttle response is probably better since more air is moving past the grille and is being sucked up by the intake. So my suggestion to you guys if you still have that front tube part on, grab a phillips head and take it off!

Now this would only be possible on the 4th gen since the 3rd gen air tube runs on the other side of the battery. Would it it difficult to fab up a tube feeding straight from the grille to the cylinders so the air doesn't have a chance to become warm?

Here is a pic of my setup.

I slightly disagree with you a little bit, but am not 100% for certain. The tube coming off the grill is directed right into the new filter so at any kind of speed that cold air is still being blown into your after market intake. And, it's not a jet turbine and you don't really have to worry about engine sucking more air than is readily availible in our atmosphere so... I took that air tube off this morning, but didn't really notice any difference when i wound thru 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. It's not really a matter of how much air is availible, but how little restriction there is for that air from the time in enters your filter, goes thru the motor, ignites the fuel (more oxygen, more burn) and goes out your exhaust. There's many things restricting that flow of air from a to z and the more you unrestrict the air the more power you will gain. or you can force feed your car air by means of turbo's, superchargers, and nos

I think both of you guys have a good point. I was actually planning on running some kind of hose (insulation, laundry, etc) from my foglight cutout up to the intake, thus creating a "cold air" set-up. Never got around to checking the dimensions because of the holidays and whatnot, but I think it's possble to get a 4" hose to squeeze somewhere in there. I still left my factory tubing in, but it does look to be restrictive. We'll see how the car reacts with a larger hose sucking in a larger volume of cold air.

I think doing a series of temperature tests with that piece in and out would show us the difference. It appears to be restrictive but at the same time its delivering somewhat of airflow to the filter area.

To the person who removed it....How big of an opening can there be had with that piece removed?

I really don't know what Nissan was thinking with this air tube. As I look at it, first of all. I don't have good sunlight so I can't take good pictures but my gripes with it are

1)Right at the entryway there are two small poles there.2)After those poles there's a tube leading to nowhere? to the left.3)There's about a 2 1/2 square inch indent at the top of it ???4)Even after all that there are TWO crimps before the air leaves that part.

My only guess as to why Nissan restricted this tube so much is for quietness.

Thats not even my biggest concern however, since the stock airbox is no longer there 100% of that air isn't hitting the filter on the WAI especially since if you look closely the outlet isn't directly facing the WAI's filter its more aimed to where the tube meets the filter. <-- This really doesn't matter I guess since now air is moving all around the engine bay.

My theory is now with that part removed cold air coming in from the grille can cool off the whole engine bay and the intake is now sucking in more cold air. I could be wrong though.

Just looking at it the 2.5's air duct looks way less restrictive. But to answer your question S_C it looks like you can easily get a 4 inch pipe in there, probably even a whole filter with that thing gone. There's lots of room between that opening and the radiator fan.
