ok, sorry to start another of these, but i just need a quick answer or two. ok, i know the dual altima fans fit, but by fit do they mean fit on the radiator fully or fit as in line up with the mounting points? if not, i guess i'll use zip-ties or some wire.

now to the second, slightly more involved question. as for wiring...how does this sound: dual fans, both grounds going to the frame. the positive wires spliced together, then run to a relay, then from the relay to a 15a fuse and then to the +batt. terminal. then, run a wire from the relay to the ign. and then ground the relay. is that ok? i dont plan on using the thermoswitch till i can get in there and drain the radiator. this is a future mod, but i need to get my fan fixed cause the old one is dead and it sounds like azz. when i wire the relay to the ign, do i just splice it to the ign wire? or part of the harness, or what? thanks for the help, sorry to start another of these.

I think a setup like that would work.. the activation wire would goto ignition or switch..

Dunno if this helps :)

As far as the fit I dunno =/ Probably a thread on it somewhereYou could just tap the activation wire into the ignition wire.. it just needs a small amount of power to throw the internals so the 12v current will flow.. make sure you use thick enough wire

Well depends if you are going to use the dual speed. The motors have 4 wires, 2 - and 2 +.I have on circuit wired to the AC fan relay and the other to a adj. thermostat. I used 12 gauge for the motors and 8 gauge coming from and to the relays. In my 93 Dohc, stock radiator, I had to trim like 1/4 from both sides and fits perfectly.

good stuff, thanks. do i need to through a fuse in there somewhere? or will the relay protect it?

Seth you could prolly stick an inline fuse on the 12v going to the relay [from the battery].

I didn't know they dual speed fans sorry :)Figured they would just be power/ground

thanks. dont know if they;re dual stage, gonna find out today. might just find a big single fan for now, till i get something bigger in the enginebay. if they arent two stage, then the diagram would be fine.

as for the wire going to the battery, i can just tie that to one of the posts, right? i dont want to blow myself up while doing this today if i get time. i'll start mapping things out when i get the fan and get stuff done, but not install till everything is finished.

Yeah directly to the battery would be a good spot

I wouldn't wire it to the fuel pump fuse.. maybe if I had no choice; id be afraid of going 80mph and something happen where the fuse blows and then bam no fuel

Just in theory. Be safe; goto the battery directly.

yep. well, i have everything semi wired and ready to put in. ran out of time today, but it will be done tomorrow. im still looking for the ign. relay for the radio, didnt want to start cutting stuff and end up killing the car. oh well, i have plenty of time tomorrow to get the beast running.

If you are going to go with one big fan I recommend you find a way to keep the shroud, so that it draws air across the whole radiator. The Maxima dual fans are probably going to be 3-speed, like the Stanza fans that I used. I didn't use the lowest speed, but I was able to use the higher two by using dual control circuits, one with a thermo switch and one with a dash switch. When one of the switches is on, the fans run at medium. When both are on, they run on high. The dash switch circuit has a relay and is wired through the ignition. The thermo control circuit is wired to the battery, thus if it gets warm enough the fans will run after the ignition is turned off until it cools down a bit, anwhere up to 10 minutes depending on the temperature outside. This is a bonus since your coolant temp is going to spike right after you shut off the car. Here's the wiring diagram: This is a pretty nice setup, works real well.

Hey Seth, or anybody else that has done an electric fan mod, how exactly do you go about physically installing a general aftermarket fan? Do you just hang it in front of the rad? Or does it bolt in somewhere?

some aftermarket kits use some really long bolts, but i know most guys use zipties or bailing with with some flat thin wood pieces on the outside. you could prolly just rig something up. i plan on zipting it to death. just be carful of the radiator.

I was able to use a couple of the original fan shroud mounting bolts where the holes lined up between the new fans and the radiator. Other than that I used zip ties. May sound ghetto but once they're tightened down the fan assembly doesn't even budge, and you can't even see the ties unless you're looking for them.
