I was coming home from a friends house at 4am last night and was a little tired. Next thing I know I hear this loud boom and the car yanks to the left. I see a tree coming straight for me so I manage to get the car over to the right a little bit, so I sideswiped the tree. Then I went through the grass and over a bump and into a guys mailbox, then back across the road to where I finally stopped. There was a row of about 4 Elm trees to my left and lead pipes from mailboxes to my right. I have no idea how I got the car going down the middle of those. The sheriff that came said I was very very lucky I didn't hit one of those trees head on, because if I did, I'd be in the hospital or possibly dead. I was doing 45mph by the way when this happened. I feel so ****ty, my mom let me take her car and this happens(Pontiac Sunfire by the way). It wasn't my 240 luckily. The passenger headlight is cracked(where I hit the mail box), drivers door is smashed and stuck, rear quarter is smashed in before the rear tire, dented front wheel, cut rear tire, scuffs on the front bumper and driver's window where the mirror hit when it flew off. :( I feel like total **** right now and so depressed.

Seriously, how did you get going down that path? That's weird...Anyway, just be glad you're ok, I'm sure your mom is too. Also be happy it wasn't your 240 ;)

My mom said the car can be replaced or fixed and just glad I didn't get hurt. My dad on the otherhand is very very pissed at me. He didn't care at all that I was ok or ask how I was, he just started yelling at me when he got home from work. The one night I actually go out and come home late. I guess thats my luck, but I was also lucky that I didn't hit that tree head on.

*edit*Think the insurance will go up for this one??

*double edit*When my dad was yelling at me, my mom's like remember when you rear ended that camper with the SUV or weren't paying attention and hit the guard rail with the beater car.

Well my dad's not that mad anymore. They went to look at the car, but couldn't go look at it closely because it was behind a locked fence, but they said it didn't look that bad for hitting a tree. That was my first accident and I hope to never have another, because they're scary and suck big time. Guys be careful when you drive and make sure to maintain your cars closely. My dad was wondering if the tie rod or something in the front end gave out instead of the tire blowing to cause the accident, because the car was clunking before when you turned. If I had my 240, it would have been severely damaged but it probably wouldn't have broke to cause me shooting at a tree in the first place.

Yeah, accidents suck big time. Last year, in October (Friday the 13th, too) I got in an accident in my parents 98 Civic. Unknown road + unexperienced + gravel/dirt = totaled car into the side of a mountain. Scariest moment in my life. I walked away with nothing more than whiplash and a few bruises, but my friend broke three of his ribs from the seat belt tensioner. I felt really bad. When my parents arrived at the accident, they both started yelling at me, not giving a damn whether or not I was fine. It pissed me off. But luckily, everything turned out okay. My friend healed fine, and insurance gave us $12,500 for the car. That made my parent's a little happier...

Brett - Glad you're OK.

One's first accident is typically NEVER forgotten.

BTW, if the car was "clunking" prior to the accident, I'd be a little pissed at Pops for not maintinaing his vehicles to NICO standards!

p.s. And props to mom for pimping him out about the rear-ender. :D

All I have to say is Sunfires are death traps. I hated driving that car before and this makes me even hate it/afraid to drive it more now. I gotta get out there and get my ST bars installed, so I have my car running again. All I know is something in front end giving out or tire blowing around a corner = ****ting yourself. lol Yeah my dad rear ended a camper when they were taking me to school like a month after they got the SUV.....he's like wow this takes a long time to stop. :rolleyez My mom was just rolling her eyes when he said that one.

If I had my 240 and that happened(most likely would never happen though), there would be pieces all over and it would be in rough shape. I'm just glad I didn't, cause I'd die.

I still remember the song that was playing on the radio: The Ataris "The Boys Of Summer" It was right after they said, "Out on the road today, I saw a Black Flag sticker on a Cadillac. Little voice inside my head said don't look back..." BAM. Hello Mr. Mountain. A very surreal experience...

I don't know about anyone else, but I swear time slowed down. It seemed like the whole event was playing in slow motion.

I totally agree......I hear the noise and was like oh fuc*. I tried turning the car to go around the corner but it was just going straight. I hit the brakes to try and stop before I went off the road, but the brakes suck on that car. Then it seemed like forever before I hit that tree even though I knew it was coming, then got airborn while taking out the mail box as I cross the one guys driveway. The front drivers wheel is totally fuc*ed up. I'm just glad it was at 4 am when no one was outside or around.

the sunfires/cavaliers ARE deathtraps. My boyfriend's Z was in the bodyshop for a while, and he had to putt around in a Cavalier rental car. One afternoon on his way home, he went to stop for a redlight, and the brakes locked up prematurely on some slick pavement (oil patch or something) and hit a Honda Accord, the Accord was fine, barely a scratch, but the Cavalier had a huge dent on the hood and it creased in several places, and the headlight's bracket broke. Yep. Quality American engineering, 5mph accident=hood replacement.

It almost sounds like the CV joint just blew on your mom's car. When that stuff happens at a speed like 45mph, that can be dangerous.

Glad your'e ok and it wasn't the 240!

It will survive, just ripped some bark off of the side of it.

My First Accident was I rear ended a 18 wheeler at 45-55MPH in my first car, which was a brand new 98 Accord EX (yup 500 a month, I would never make that mistake again), the whole front end was gone the engine got push in 6 inch all the way to the fire wall and make a big dent on the fire wall. Don't ask me how I got out alive without anything wrong with me. I just open the back door and came out of the car. Yeah from that day on I am 100-150FT alway from a 18 wheeler.

Glad you are ok!

I still remember the crunch my Acura made upon the tree.

then laughing about a tractor while walking around the car on a popping broken ankle.

comedy. me - "hahaah yes we'll ride the tractor to freedom!"

friend - "what's that popping?"

me - "my ankle. bwhahahahahahahahaah"

man I'm stupid.
