so i got into an accident last nite with a maxima... here's how it all went...after the 240 meet we went cruising and then i went to a party with one of the guys there. we just got there and this guy stumbles out of the house and walks to his car... he lokced the doors so couldnt stop him or get in...my friend decides to follow him and i do the same... the drunk guy rolls through every stop sign and wahtnot at like 20+...by this time im behind him and he decides to make a full stop right as im about to cathc up to him (max is faster then 240) he's got abs, i dont. he stops isntead of rolling through the stop so i slam on the brakes and car starts to slide and bam... wtf... no matter how i look at it its my fault. which sucks. this is what i get to trying to make sure nothing happens to the other two...... out of all the people that get hit by drunk drivers i have to go full circle and hit a drunk driver... oh and my core support is trashed along with the hood and dunno but AC condensor is probably done for too along with drivers side lights. and i have no $ and only liability insurance.

believe it or not you probably woulda been best off just letting him go. You put yourself in more danger by trying to follow him. No offense, i know you were only trying to do the right thing, but as i read it, all you really did was put 2 drunk drivers on the road instead of jsut 1. (meaning since you were drivign like he was to keep up, you just put a 2nd drunk on the road)

it's honorable of you to actually go out and try to make sure he was safe.

Yup, try to stop a drunk driver, but if they are going to drive anyway, stay as far away as possible. If anything, give them someone to follow (meaning have him follow you). He's more apt to follow traffic laws when he's following someone who is, plus, if he rear ends you, it's his fault.

If you would have called the cops at the scene of the accident it would have been his fault because he was drunk.

Wrong. There is no causation. It doesn't matter how many laws you break, so long as breaking those laws do not cause or contribute to the accident. If a drunk driver, fails to yield and hits a car, it's not the drunk driving that is the cause of the accident. It's the failure to yield that is. Certainly, driving drunk can contribute to an accident, but it merely causes poor judgement, poor reflexes and poor coordination. But if these factors do not cause you to drive your vehicle in such a way that it causes an accident, then you would not be at fault.

Sorry to hear about that. If its not that bad you can probably bend it back. Plus many people are getting rid of their 95-96 front ends for 97-97s. You can either convert or find some extra fenders, hood, and headlights. Sorry about the car. Yes my maxima stopps better than the 240.

Would've been better if you and your friend beat the crap out of the guy before he got to his car. Or called a taxi for him.
