Yet annother smell thread.

When I start my car & back out of the driveway, it smells variously like a jiffy marker, paint thinner, varsol, paint thinner, etc. It's a new smell every day. Also occasionally there is a very slight sulphur smell.

I understand the sulphur is probably the CAT starting to go, but what's the weird organic chemical smell (techron from the gas perhaps?)

Also as it might be related, performance-wise my car would get pantsed by anything on the road that's not falling apart (mazda protege, dodge durango, whatever).

If that organic smell smells like rotten eggs, that's the cat too.

Otherwise, if it's smelling like fuel, you better be careful & check for leaks.

You may also be running a little rich (a bad sensor somewhere, maf, o2, egr, etc), which makes for some unpleasant smell.
