Post

Hi everyone, I always loved the look of the Murano and have owned various Nissan's for the last 10 years and love them. This weekend I finally picked up new 2010 Murano LE with everything but NAV.

Sorry for another iPod question but I did several searches before posting this as I couldn't find anything on this specifically.

I have an iPod Nano 5th Generation (which is currently the newest) and an iPhone 4. I am aware that neither of these will charge without an adapter and that is fine.

The issue is I can get both of them to play through the console connection but I can't do anything more then skip to the next song and even that will depend on how the iPod is set (like shuffle on or off). Am I missing something here? From what I read in the manual it looks like I should be able to choose songs, play lists and do pretty much anything you can do on the iPod itself. The manual is also referring to the Multi Controller which I assume is the one that is linked to the large display and not the controls on the radio itself?

I also saw the "Compatibility" list stating that certain iPods / iPhones might have issues so I am wondering if this is what I am experiencing? I don't have access to an older version but would certainly buy one off Craig's List if it would work as expected.

Again sorry if this is covered but I couldn't find it.

do you have the AUX (red, white, and yelllow) jack on the back of your center console?? (is that what you mean by "the console connection?) i use that w/ my iphone 4 w/ a radio shack red/white to male 3.5 jack and i can control the iphone same as though it were just ear buds, etc.

and on a side note, ya think they're gonna recall the iphone 4? lol

When I say the console connection I am referring to the iPod port in the center console not the one in the back of the console that you mentioned with the 3 RCA connections.

What I am trying to figure out is the functionality of the iPod interface that is built in to the 2010 Murano with the Bose Radio (Not the NAV / Hard Drive System). If I connect an iPod to the cable that came with the car with my iPod on it will automatically switch the stereo to AUX and start to play based on the play list or artist that I had selected on the iPod.

The only control I seem to have from there is the ability to change the song but hitting the ff / rr buttons on the radio itself or the steering wheel. The manual however seems to indicate that you have a lot more control and should be able to select play lists or artists right from the large controller (muti-function I believe they call it) which I am under the impression that is the one right below the 7" monitor in the dash (large circular one with the buttons on it). No matter what I do I can't seem to get any additional functionality out of my iPod or iPhone (for music).

This is where I am confused... When I read some reviews I read that the Murano has "One of the best iPod Interfaces" they've every seen which I was totally psyched about using but don't see it.

Again this could be because I have a brand new iPod and not one older that they mention is "Compatible"

As for the iPhone I would be very surprised if there is ever a recall but also I am a never say never person. For them to either give out free $1 (to make) bumpers that they sell for $30 is an admission of an issue which will only cause more problems then it would solve. If they recall them then who knows what kind of a backlash that will cause and cost them. All I can say is that the iPhone 4 is an awesome device BUT they seemed to forget the most important thing that a PHONE is supposed to do which is make and receive calls. This is a POS compared to my iPhone 3G and was waiting to see what was going to happen but my 30 day return policy is almost up and they were going to charge me a 10% restocking fee on the full non-contract price (can they do that???). Needless to say my credit company would get involved if / when it comes down to that. No matter what they are handling this very poorly and need to do something soon. I am dying to hear what they say in the press conference on Friday.

I am pretty sure that you are severely limited with the ipod's operation unless you pony up the extra $$ for the damn nav package. i was rather anal about clarifying that before my purchase, and unless someone else can correct me, no nav = no complete ipod controls. nice racket nissan's got goin huh??! i'd say try the RCA route, i know thats not what you're after, but i think you're SOL w/out the nav package :(

i heard a recall would cost apple Billions, so you can be pretty sure they wont be doing that! lol. but i am also very interested in what they say at the press conference. either way, i'd say short apple stock if you can haha. Jobs is such an a**!

God Lord don't tell me that... Of course I was dealing with a complete greenhorn at the dealer that was telling me that my Murano came with everything under the sun including the HDD Storage System which obviously my LE Doesn't without the NAV Package which I don't have.

Of course the manual is no help whatsoever but it seems to imply that it does work with the Bose System and not just the NAV but I could be wrong.

I wish someone with a Murano with a Bose without the NAV could help me confirm this. I suppose I could go to a dealer and plug in my iPod just to see what happens :-)

If that is the case then I will be really bummed out and of course I probably would have paid the extra $ for one with the NAV just to have all of the bells and whistles that I "Thought" i was getting. But now that I have taken ownership of this vehicle that won't be financially wise to do.

yea, i have the LE w/ nav, bose, whole nine... and what i did was have my ipod in hand while at the dealer. let me ask you this, the button on the left side of your steering wheel that toggles up & down (it like a "rocker"), does it say "enter" on it and can you select a song, playlist, or any other command with it by depressing it strait down? of not, then you dont have what you need.

yes, i spent all that extra money for that button as i (and everyone else) wanted/need that single button to be able to "select" things. lol, like i said, racket.

I too have the Bose system without navigation (use my Droid for Google Maps navigation w/window mount). Had similar issue with my daughter's 2nd gen iPod Touch. Solution is to plug the iPod to the provided iPod cable in the center console box (leave the iPod in the console) and then cycle through the inputs (AM, FM, SAT, IPOD) by using the AUX button on the dash radio controls to select IPOD. Takes a few seconds to read iPod data but then all iPod functions described in the manual are available via the dash display and either steering wheel or dash top dial controler (my daughter uses the controler). Enjoy!

Thanks for all of the responses everyone... To put this issue to bed you CAN / DO have all of the iPod Control Functionality with the Bose Stereo without the NAV Pacakge!!!

Of course this is no thanks to the manual and its cryptic ways of explaining things not to mention the awesome "If Available" that doesn't tell you which options you do have or don't have.

With this in mind I ordered an iPod Nano 3rd Generation off e-bay, got it today connected it and other then not giving me the not charging message I got the same results. With this in mind I started messing around with all of the buttons and randomly hit one that low and behold gave me exactly what I was looking for.

When you connect an iPod to the iPod cable located inside of the center console the iPod will start to play and you will see the very basic information on the Dashboard screen this will only tell you the song name and the artist. From there press the "Disc" Button on the Radio itself and you will now see all of the options that you can control with the "Multi-Function Controller" including scrolling through the songs, selecting playlists and so on. This is exactly what I was looking for and I am SO glad that I finally figured it out.

I hope my pain helps anyone that runs in to this or questions this!
