Do those kits at auto stores really work to sand off the yellowing? Or am I better off buyng new lights? If I buy new lights, how do I stop them frm yellowing?

Are you talking about yellowing or the hazy glaze on the lights? The hazy glaze is oxidation and a lot of things will fix it. Some things will work better than others. I read somewhere that Mothers wheel polish would work. Knowing that I already had some in the garage, I thought I'd try it on one of my old SUV's before buying an expensive headlight repair kit. And sure enough the Mothers wheel polish worked. That was 6 months ago and they still look good.

The auto store was out of the mothers mag and aluminum polish, so I opted for 3M rubbing compound. It worked fine! And I can use on paint too!

yes the resto kits work, basically you wetsand and buff your headlights, depensing nt he condition you might be able to just buff them with a polish

Meguiars makes a product called PlastX that I've used before and is worth checking out. If it works for you then you've saved a ton of time and effort.
