Have a 2008 M35. About 6 weeks ago my yellow key light came on and my car wouldn't start. All other dash lights were on like normal when you start. I took it to a shop and there was water in my computer. They replaced it ($600). They also tried to see where water was intruding and couldn't find anything. Every thing was fine. It rained all day yesterday and today the car won't start again. Same thing. Yellow key light on. Not sure what to do since it seems that if I replace the computer water will just get in again. Anyone had this problem and what did they do to solve it?

This is not the steering lock problem that you read about if you google the yellow key conditions.

I'm unsure what you mean by computer, but if the reference is to the intelligent key unit maybe there's a leak from the fender top, driver side. Or maybe you mean the BCM which is on the passenger side. Then maybe there is leak at some point where the windshield rests on the body of the car. Again, check for water collection under the battery and IPDM area.

Yeah sorry. That's the terminology they used at the shop and I'm not very car literate. Just looking for where the leak may be. Thanks for your help!

Sorry to see you have this type of issue. What shop did you take it too? If it wasn't Infiniti, I'd take it there or if it wasn't a body shop, I'd take it to a body shop. You need to solve the water issue.

You could post a picture of the part.

Thanks for your response. I live about half way between Richmond and Washington DC and the closest Infinity dealer is an hour away. My car won't start... so... I was thinking I would get the unit replaced under warranty and then take it to a dealer.

Things are a bit more involved than that. Replacement of either the intelligent key unit or the BCM requires reprogramming your key. Btw, if your car didn't start the other time how did you get it to the shop where it got fixed?
