Yellow headlight fog is a classic problem. Most of the places i've looked up suggest using sandpaper to get rid of it, but i've been bored lately and am in search of a new way to get rid of it.

Oxidation of plastic is what causes the yellow cloud, which most of you probably know. Acrylic oxidation occurs when the energy from the light cause the oxygen in the air to react with the plastic on the headlights.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

POINT BEING~

I was thinking of what could deoxidize the headlights without harming the plastic. i searched around my house and came up with.......

WD40 (removes rust)Vitamin E gel tablets (antioxidant)

i tried them both and i'm going to say that WD40 is useless, while the vitamin e on the other hand got rid of some of the clouding. i think.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

not that my G had a really bad case of yellow cloud. it just had a bit of a yellow that i could'nt seem to remove with a normal wash, that the vitamin e took off. so i am left with a "i don't know how well it works."

THAT IS WHY I COME TO MY FELLOW G35 LOVERS TO ASK THIS.

If anyone has a car with a really bad case of yellow fog, pop some vitamin e gel tabs and tell me if it works. =D

LOL I love the logic with the Vitamin E. However, I don't think it works quite like that.

What has to happen is you have to remove the oxidized plastic. You can buff it out with some sort of automotive polisher, like Liquid Glass, which I recommend. Also works well on glass, better than RainX. Its a polisher with an acrylic finish. Lasts about a year on paint.

I wanted to die when I read this. You weren't serious about the vitamin E oil were you?

Antioxidants like Vitamin E prevent oxidants or absorb them. I don't think you can remove the oxygen damage once it's already done.

A better solution would be a non-reactive coating. Probably UV resistant paint would do the trick.

Relax... i was just looking to see if there was anything around the house i could use. i'm not oblivious to the fact that i can easily purchase something that will remove it. if i really needed that advice i would have searched the forums.

as i said before, it really isnt a problem on my car. it was just a thought.

Windex will work better than Vit E as for products around the house.

I'm sorry, but its just too funny. Every time I want to laugh, I come and read this. They always say laughter is healthy for you. And for that, I thank you.

Plastix works good for my Maxima so I would assume it would work well with the G if needed

+1 for Meguire's PlastX

micro-abrasive

Once the UV protectant on the headlights fades you will have to clean the headlights every 6 months to a year

Plexus is a good option, also. Expensive, and not as good for your skin, but more effective on clouded plastic- both preventing it and "removing" it (somewhat).

If the fogginess is caused by condensation "sweating" on the inside of the lens, try AntiperspirantIf you keep getting tickets because you depress the gas pedal too far, try AntidepressantsIf your G is attracting too many nice looking ladies with tight a$$es, try AntibodiesIf your wife is pissed because you spend too much time doting on your car, try AntidoteIf you can't afford your car payment because of the alimony to the Ex, try Antimony

...I have already stopped thinking this is fun....

I am a big fan of the Novus plastic polish system... it's a three step deal. I found mine locally at a law enforcement supply store... they use it to keep their light bars polished.
